Wow, looked like a Wild game from '07 except we were wearing the other jerseys. The Canucks just played shutdown hockey the last period. They clogged up the slot, and didn't give us many looks.

By the way, any chance we can trade Miettinen? I hear Toronto is looking for a terrible winger in exchange for some draft picks. I don't know if there is another player in the league that could miss as many opportunities as he does.

We already have one... Eric Nystrom.

I didn't think they played that bad, just couldn't put it in the net.

Maybe we can package Miettinen and Barker for nothing in return. Heck I might even throw in a low end prospect just to take them off our hands. Or better yet give them Sheppard!

NOt pay Shepard - $803,250. Wish I could get that deal.

the Wild do have $1.7mm in capspace. lets keep rolling and see if we make any playoff moves.

Mittens makes Koivo a better player. No one in thier right mind would take Barker, we should just send him to Houston and hope he develops.. I'd like to see Staubits or Nystrom go down and Kassian come up!

The wild look really good out of the gates in Chi. Scott is in tonight for the hawks and he already laid out stoner and Clutterbuck has taken 3 bad angle low perentage shots because he actually got one in the other night.. But watch Scott lay some big hits and taunt the wild all night..

We could do much better than Mittens to make Koivu more productive. Neither players are real finishers. Both are better at making a play than scoring a goal. If we had a player with that scoring touch, and played well with Koivu and Bruno, that line would be a much bigger threat.

If Mittens makes Koivu better just imagine what a mid to low end first line wing could do, let alone a real first line winger.

Wild came out of the shoot last night then after the first 5 min, they got murdered.. They couldn't handle the puck on the breakout and in the nuetral zone to save thier lives..

I can't make sense of any of our lines.. Madden on the 4th line and Brodziak on the 2nd line? But as far as right wings, Mittens is better than anything else we have right now..

We've got too many checkers. That's what's wrong with our lines.

I guess I wasn't saying we've got something better than Mittens right now, but we could do better.

Anyone know how long we have him on contract?

What's Kobasew done in the last 10 games?

Mittens, Kobasew, Brunette & Madden are UFA after the season. Harding and Theodore are also UFA, everyone else is signed for next season.

Everyone would go except Theodore if it were up to me.. Unless Kobesew wanted to stay for less than $1m and play 4th line..

Are you sure? I thought they suspended him? Or does that just mean the money doesn't count on the cap?

I thought we weren't paying him for the year, therefore, we don't count his cap hit.

Watch him go somewhere next year and develop into an NHLer. We shouldn't have been playing him in the NHL at the age of 19. He was too young, sat in the press room most of the time.

That is what I thought as well, but someone else seems to think he is being paid $800,000.

I believe he gets paid, he just doesnt hit the cap. Hey, we are paying Parrish another 2 years too. I think we split the bill on him though.

I bet we will have to split Shepards contract next year too. I will look up the rules later, but it works somewhat like that if he isnt signed.

The difference is we cut Parrish while he still had a contract, but Sheppard is up after this year, so it won't cost us anything. That is why we still had Parrish's contract on our cap.

From what I have read we aren't paying Sheppard though, just providing rehab with Trainers etc.

Yep...good win...1 point out of the play-offs...4 points out of 3rd. Keep the hammer down Wild. Can't afford to lose too many more.

Hopefully Koivu isn't out all year. Didn't sound good from what I heard. Just the fact that he didn't come back all game was a bad sign.

Why is the game not on channel 11?

I was a little upset when I first turned it on as well. laugh Were looking alright going into the 3rd, heck of a pk so far....Backstrom is playing awesome and the Wings are getting away with a few calls...as usual.

They cut into the Buffalo/Washington game during intermissions. I was really confused when hockey came back on and it was a different game.

Tough loss today. At least we get one out of it.

Calgary is up 3-0 against the Habs. If they win, we are tied with them and several others with 68 points.

Can't edit for some reason soooo....

I was wrong, Calgary now has 70pts and 6th place.

No teams play tonight that affect us. Tomorrow there are 4 or 5 games that could bump us. Then we host the Oilers (who we have dominated in the past) and the LA. We need to win both as teams like Edmonton are the ones you need to beat consistently (can't slack against poor teams, ask the Gophers) and LA is right below us in the standings.

This is a playoff atmosphere. Lots of fun to watch.

Considering how few games the guy misses, I'm sure he's considered both options so far.

We're really going to miss him. Hopefully he's back in three weeks. At least he should be able to stay in shape throughout his absence. Could be worse, could be a knee.

[PoorWordUsage] injuries.. and our captain non the less.. I would say that a .500 record while he is gone will be a huge task..

I would consider yesterdays 1 pter a win, I didn't catch the game but and pt against detroit is a win imo..

Give Clutterbuck the C.. He hussles the most and has been putting some pucks in the net and just imagine what the other teams would think when our captin lays 10 big checks on them..

We came out flat last night, but held on to the second and decided to start playing hockey.

Hall was good last night. I was surprised he didn't score. He's looking much better than he did in the beginning of the year.

thats great to hear regarding the lake levels!!!!!!

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year

I don't think its 100% accurate, you are just relying on other average joes to report precipitation. But I think most numbers there are right in the ball park, especially when you see consistency among multiple reports in a general area.   It's probably more accurate than what the weather terrorists say on the news  which usually only reports metro areas. cocorahs is good for getting rural area reports you just might not have as many reports to go off of

Thanks Mike.  I've been looking at bags of it for years but never wanted to chance wasting good meat on it.  I have a gas and charcoal grills, but really love the flavor of charcoal over gas. Most of the time it's if we have time to use one or the other.

On the south end...   The big open water, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  The bays and tributaries of LOW such as Zippel Bay, Bostic Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  The lake is in good shape for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. The many bays and backwaters of the lake have been receiving attention from spring pike anglers.  Some pike have already entered the bays, spawned and gone back out to the lake, but there are still a pile of fish to be had.   The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Another great week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  The bite has been very good and lots of fish of all sizes are being boated.     Sturgeon are being caught from Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River all the way to Birchdale, about 42 miles.  There are many boat ramps along the river to make life easy.  Starting from the east going west...   -Nelson Park at Birchdale (About 30 miles east of Baudette) -Frontier (9 miles west of Birchdale) -Vidas (Near Clementson Rapids) -Timbermill Park (East Baudette) -Peace Park (International Drive, Baudette) -Wheeler's Point (mouth of Rainy River)  The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Up at the NW Angle...  The Angle is ice free.  Resorts are gearing up for the fishing opener which is expected to be excellent.  The late ice bite was very good and the walleyes are in good numbers amongst the islands area of the NW Angle.

Charcoal Briquettes are great for low and slow cooking as they produce long-lasting heat. Lump Charcoal burns hotter and adds more flavour to your food; therefore is great for hot and fast cooking.
