New to HSO and Duluth Area - Looking for good SM Bass Lakes

Recommended Posts

I am new to this site/forum. I just moved back to the Duluth Area. Proctor actually. I grew up on the Range/Eveleth. I am looking for some local area lakes/rivers that produce good smallie action. I know must of the post are for eye's and crappies, but I've fished long enough to know where there are eyes there are always smallies. Any suggestion on some lakes/rivers for fall. I have 18' skeeter bass boat and concerned about running it on the St. Louis river out of Boyscout. How dangerous is the river going up towards Hwy 23 bridge.

island lake has a nice population of 15 to 19 inchers with some bigger ones mixed in here and there. under docks, in fallen trees, at the end of underwater points will all have some smallies on em right now. I prefer topwater but hj's and others work well too.

River is easy running until the buoys come off. Just be very careful after water street where the river hits both of the sliver islands. If ya want I can run your boat and show ya how to get to places.

Northlander,

I would really appreciate if you would show me the ropes on the river. I am mostly a weekend warrior. Due to work, wife, and kids. Let me know your availability over the next couple of weekends Friday Sat or Sunday. I can take off work usually around 1 or 2 on Fridays.
