Couple of observations:

--Berrian is way overpaid...and Favre doesn't trust him...for good reason

--Pat Williams got his arse handed to him

--Saints O-line won the game

--Where was Camarillo...???

--Our secondary played pretty well

Tough to win in New Orleans...teams are pretty evenly matched with the home team winning...no shame in that.

one other observation. why does Allen dominate so much on defense at the metrodome but seem to seldom come up on the highlights on road games?

One more observation:

Peyton is a much better coach than Chilly...he set the Vikes up in the 1st half with an almost exclusive passing game. Vikes choose to only bring 4 rushers at a time...all game long...which is one of the most physically demanding things to do in football (rush the passer).

He ended the game running the ball down the throats of the same four guys who [PoorWordUsage] themselves out in the 1st half.

Vikes did the exact opposite.

Why are we carrying 9 or 10 d-linemen and not using them...especially late?

Did anyone sit through the hour long Saints/New Orleans drama fest before the game? Since when did football games carry so much social ratifications? I felt like if the vikings beat the saints they would be responsible for all the devastation in New Orleans. I guess in the end the NFL got what they wanted again, another prime time saints victory to help heal the region. Oh well, now the vikes can focus on football since the media B.S is over. I'm just looking forward to hurricane Thor finally destroying the Saints in January (when it matters)

I thought we did well on the road in a hostile environment. We were missing our #1 WR, #2 and #3 corner.

Thought you did well on the road? You lost, how is that doing well?

I read a few posts, funny how I don't see any [PoorWordUsage] and moaning about calls from the refs this game. Is it possible that the Saints just plain beat you this year AND last year?

I can't wait to hear all the Queens fans try and justify Favre not being in camp and turn it into a blame Childress flaming, Favre looked like he was playing with a bunch of guys he just met..........

I have a feeling the Vikings will be 1 and 5 by the time they meet Green Bay in Week 7, with that win either against the Dolphins or Lions. The Packers have a REAL shot at being 7-0 at that time and that's a HUGE hole to dig out of for the Queens.........

Too bad they couldn't have opened against the Browns again, maybe Favre could have just eased into the season this year too..........

NO WAY the Vikings are 1 - 5 for week 7. My God this team isn't that bad and they still will dominate their home games this season! They lost 14 - 9 against the Super Bowl Champs... with a depleted team... on the road.... How bad do you think the Vikes really are.....? Lets talk in January..... I won't deny Green Bay may take the division this year, but the Vikings are still one of the top teams in the league AND WILL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS THIS SEASON AGAIN!

I see the bars just closed huh, Shiner...

You can talk all the smack you want once the Pack dethrones the Vikes as NFC North champs...until then, have another beer!!

OK, I was at work tonite- did the Saints get their rings tonite? If they did, thats pouring some salt in the wounds and something that could wait til the Vikes left town.

Wow, I come back the next morning and look at the trolls! It's a petting zoo down here! Who put the quarter in your slots Foss and Shinedog? LMIT I'd expect, even DC...I guess the Packer fans are still sore from last year!

I got real bored and went to bed in the third. I like to watch a game to be entertained, even if we would have won, it wasn't entertaining.

No kidding! OMG what a SNOOZEFEST. ZZZZZZZZ

It's obvious that the Saints put the better team on the field last night. The vikes really missed their injured players. They will rebound though.

I hope McKinnie gets needled all year long for being carted off the field for a finger injury. Are you kidding me??

i'm not an expert at football but this is what i saw. farve should not miss training camp [i supported him not being there]. i think he admitted he was tired in the second half. where was camarillo in the 1st half? i know he is new but has better hands than some out there. peterson played well. defense played well in general. something tells me not having a backup quarterback will sink the season. farve will get better as the season goes on, but if he goes down we are done. 2c good luck.

I am very surprised that Camarillo did not play as much as he should have. He may be new, but he has great hands and deserves to be out there. I wonder why Berrian is even out there. Dropped a punt, dropped passes....Need I say any more about him. Shiancoe is gonna have a good year. I can see him getting a LOT of passes thrown to him. We FOR SURE miss Rice. I honestly think the Vikes need to get something put together for a WR while rice is injured. Harvin looks kinda clueless out there, and like I said earlier, Berrian is Berrian. Our defense was the ONLY reason we were in that game. That first touchdown made me say, "Great here we go" but after that they buckled down. I also agree that they got tired in the end and let Thomas run on them. I think we need our corners back(which hopefully will be soon). Asher got burnt on a few plays and I think he is not what we need at corner right now. But overall the Vikings DID lose. So not a good start to the season. I feel them coming back strong for week 2 and beating the Dolphins at home.

Here's the plan to stop the Vikes till you get a WR. 8 in the box, and double Shianco.

Berrrian is awful, he needs to be cut.

Berrian did not play like he was supposed to be the best receiver in purple. Shiancoe was our obvious bright spot, but it's easy to stop one guy with some adjustments. Camarillo should have been a target all game since Berrian can't seem to get open. I heard from lots of people here that Rice's absence will be okay, but so far that does not appear to be the case. Maybe Harvin/#4 will get it together soon.

I don't know what happened to Pat Williams, but he just seemed about 5 years older out there. His linemates were equally disappointing. It was one of the most frustrating things I've seen as a Vikes fan: Thomas for 4, Thomas for 5, Thomas for 4...

Favre looked shaky and made some bad decisions. AP looked good at times, but how many times can you run the ball on 1st down in a row? Mix it up a little. I liked the swing pass to him, but they never went back to it. I miss Chester already a little.

Toughest game in our schedule is out of the way, but it was a winnable game. Gotta get our hands dirty starting in practice this week. Sky is not falling, but we have our work cut out for us.

Vikes sure couldn't figure out that counter running play the Saints kept throwing them. Wash the big boys down then cut back and follow the fullback

Where was Camarillo all game? Why didn't the ball get fed to Peterson in the 2nd half? Apart from the obviously bad chemistry between Favre and the WRs, this loss is chalked up to poor coaching

I thought you lost. The road is always a hostile environment. How is that doing well? crazy

Yeah we lost, I think most people thought we would lose, but most thought we were gonna get dominated in a big way. The road is not always a hostile environment, there's road games where the fans are out of the game.

Like I said we didn't have our #1 WR, and we didn't have our #2 and #3 corner against a high flying team that puts up big points and they could only score 14 on us at home in their stadium when they are the Super Bowl Chumps.

I'd be more worried if I was an Aints fan, Farve is coming straight off the tractor, Percy hasn't been on the field, we just got Camarillo and didn't even play him until mid 3rd quarter, We are missing 2 of our starting 3 CB's and they can only win by 5 LMMFAO.

If my team was the Aints and put up a performance like that against a team that is that injured and hasn't even practiced together I wouldn't be very happy.

I thought it was a good game. Pretty predictable IMO and nothing out of the ordinary for the Vike's and the CB4 Saint's.

Let's make some tuna out of those Dolphins next week in the inflatable poncho we refer to as our stadium. Go Vike's!

Defense played well, holding the NFL's highest scoring offense to 14 (with some help from NO's kicker, why couldn't he have missed last year).

The problem I have is with the lack of second half adjustments and the ultra conservative play calling. The Saints brought a safety down to cover Shiancoe, meaning there was a lot of single high safety played by the Saints. In a first game of the year, with a team that normally plays with 2 safeties back, and the one safety being pretty young, there were going to be some blown coverages if the Vikings tried to stretch the field. It doesn't matter if you are missing your best play makers, anyone can catch the ball on a blown coverage. A big play or even the threat of a big play would have done wonders for the short pass and run games. But we are stuck with Childress' poor play calling.

Were you happy when the Queens SQUEAKED by the 49ers and Ravens at the last second last year? Those were two weak teams and you BARELY won at home.........

Bottom line, Queens looked like that was a preseason game last night...........

I've never tried it either but I would given a chance myself too.  I've heard the term "ribeye of the sky" but I'm very skeptical of that.
    • Kettle
Yup widgeon banded in north dakota this spring as an adult. Likely on the migration north
    • Wanderer
@Kettle that band - did you get the info on it yet?  Was it a Wigeon?

I will when I get home and grill them. Yea, they fold up pretty easy, not hearty birds!
    • Kettle
Pass shoot them between roost and fields, typically farthest shot 40 yards. They don't fly high.

can you share some pics of the ribeye of the sky after its prepared?   I really want to try the meat some time and hunt them as well. Is the term falling lawn chair still accurate when you bring one down? lol
    • smurfy
      That sounds good!

On the South Shore...  Now is prime time to head up to Lake of the Woods (LOW) and the Rainy River as fall fishing is in full swing!  With plenty of limits of walleyes and saugers being caught, and a favorable weather forecast, anglers are enjoying some excellent fishing. Dress for Comfort: With cooler mornings, dressing in layers is essential. Ice fishing gear is ideal for early mornings, and you can shed layers as the day warms. A warm hat and gloves or mittens are also handy. The best bite on the south end of LOW has been in 22-28 feet of water. Water temperatures are dropping and as the temps cool further, the bite has been excellent.    Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners remains highly effective. Bring plenty of bait, as you’ll need to sort through some smaller fish, but you’re likely to land keepers as well as larger walleyes. Anglers have also reported good numbers of jumbo perch and occasional pike mixed in with the walleyes. Good Jig Colors: This week’s hot colors have been gold, gold/glow white, gold/chartreuse, gold/orange, and gold/pink. On the Rainy River...  Shiners and walleyes continue to move into the Rainy River, making it an ideal spot for targeting large walleyes. Anglers are experiencing success up and down the river, especially in areas throughout Four Mile Bay.  Walleyes are being caught in various depths, but 15-25 feet of water has been good. Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners has been highly effective. Some anglers are also trolling crankbaits to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon Fishing: With cooler days and shorter daylight hours, sturgeon activity has picked up. Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open, providing anglers with an exciting opportunity to hook into these prehistoric giants. Up at the NW Angle...  Fall fishing is firing on all cylinders up at the Angle, where walleyes continue to be concentrated around traditional areas with structure. Points, neck-down areas with current, shoreline breaks, and transition zones from rock to mud are all productive locations for walleye right now. In addition to walleyes, anglers are catching pike, jumbo perch, and crappies. Using a jig and minnow is a tried-and-true approach and continues to yield excellent results. Muskie fishing is also hot this time of year, with anglers casting and trolling to find these predators. Big muskies over 50 inches are being caught and released. For those looking to enjoy some fall fishing at its finest, now is the time to head to Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River. With cooling water temps, great weather on the horizon, and prime fishing conditions, it’s a fantastic opportunity to jig up some walleyes and saugers for a fish fry. So, bundle up, gather your gear, and come experience the unforgettable fishing that awaits you up north!
