Weather Change

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Heading up to Rainy this weekend and staying at Sha Sha. Looked at the weather and looks like a cool front is coming through. What will this do to the fishing? We were up earlier this year and had good luck fishing around reefs on both sides the the narrows. Thanks for any help.

Vex, we just got back from fishing 4 days at Rainy. Stayed at Thunderbird Lodge. The fishing was ok for walleyes. But we didn't catch many slot fish. Was it weather related? We caught a lot of 10-13 inch walleyes on the reefs east of the Brules and just west of the Brules (Fox Islands). I wish you well. When we left today, the winds were around 15 mph, with 20+ gust. Fridays forecast is for high temps in the 55-65 F range? By the way, we caught a few nice pike one around 35" and another 40" fish.

Hi Vex,

The walleyes are starting to move deeper & also suspend as they are feeding on smelt. Alot of walleyes you put in the live well are spitting up smelt. The fish are still active, but you may have better luck in 30 to 40 feet. Don't be afraid to try speed trolling plugs on the flats around the reefs., or anchor & slip bobber up about 4 feet off the bottom. Fishing will still be good, might just have to change it up from a few weeks ago.

Sincerely,

Fishmeister
