Motor Restrictions on lakes

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm looking for a list of lakes in the brainerd area that have motor restrictions. i'm looking to find something to fish around in the kayak on, and if I could avoid busy recreational lakes, that would be preferred. I have tried google, and the DNR site, and can't seem to find anything. Anyone know of any Brainerd area lakes that limit motor size for us poor yakers?

I don't know of any with motor restrictions, but there are several small lakes in the Pilsbury State Forest that have little boat traffic. Little Long, Beauty, and Green Bass they are all with in ten minutes of Gull Lake, on the west side. Try using the MN DNR lake finder. Beauty has some nice crappies and lots of little northerns. Green Bass has a good sunfish and crappie population, however most of them are small. It also has some decent bass. Little long has a poor access, but would be alright for a kayak. It has some nice crappies, bass, northerns, and the ocasional walleye.

the mississippi river in brainerd has good smallmouth fishing and if you put in at kiwanis park there is no boat trafic there because of shallow water up river that keeps boats from getting that far down

Wait until after Labor Day weekend and you'll have many of the smaller lakes all to yourself. The Mississippi is always a good choice, any time, not many speeding boats.
