Delmon will take one in the back tonight, both benches will be warned, and then Gardy will fly off the handle and get tossed. It's a given. smile

In-spite of another base running blunder by Delmon it sure was nice to see him try to run AJ over at the plate.. That's more respect earned by Delmon.... But I do see a pitch to the rib cage in the near future for his actions.

Go delmon another monster game!

For all we know, they had the contact play on which means you go as long as the pitcher doesn't field it. I'm more upset that he didn't slide as I think he would have had a shot to score because AJ was so far out in front of the plate.

Could be Coach, but with the entire infield in I'm not sure that play was on. No big deal he had a great game as predicted offensivley and made a nice defensive play.

Make no mistake if AJ did that to Mauer we would be all over AJ and would want some serious redemption.

I see Delmon getting buzzed

You and about a Zillion others would like to see that!!!!grin

I think it was a combination of it being a HUGE game and not wanting to give us a free runner and maybe AJ's coach and team-mates throwing AJ under the bus....??????

Not really trying to pile on anyone here, well maybe Sled who deserves it. smile

I think Coach like most of the time with his post and others had a legitimate beef with making some line-up tweaks earlier in the season but.........What in the world has happened to Delmon Young I've never seen anything like the decline or slump he is in, EVER.

We've come to expect the fielding blunders like in today's game when he mis-played the ball that led to the tying run but his bat, putting it nicely is missing in action.

What gives?

Guys go through slumps. Delmon has some great raw talent and it bugs me when people talk about trading him. Yeah his defense is average, or even sub par but not terrible. We have seen that he has skills in hitting the ball and I would like to see him at least another season before passing judgement.

I'm not saying trade him especially now. And yeah I get slumps.

I'm just perplexed how he went from All Star potential with MVP type of numbers to batting .200 for the last 100 AB's and more recently striking out 9 times in his last 5 games and only hitting 2 balls hard in the last 2 weeks one of which was a 360 foot blast that missed a HR by a foot that he managed to bungle into a single.

He's striking out more than Cuddyer or Kubel who at least draw some walks 20 this month between them to Delmons almost impossible to think of total of 2 for the month.

It's just hard to fathom from Delmons hot month earlier in the year that I would rather have Punto, Tolbert or even Harris at the plate right now than Delmon.

I would certainly think/hope he turns it around here soon!

NO DOUBT Delmon is struggling right now. I think his struggle is part of the progression that MLB players make. He worked his tail off this off season and it showed... then he went on a tear and now slumping. I think he has lost his edge a bit.. maybe getting a little too comfortable and not working as hard as he should be to polish things... I also think it has a lot to do with opposing teams working harder to make it difficult. Without having to worry about preparing to pitch to Morneau, just more time to focus on the weakness' of other Twins hitters.

I really think it is a normal struggle for players in the point of their career that Delmon is. Highly touted prospect. Brought up early. Fights through some struggles in a poor franchise and battles maturity issues. Finally figures out he can't do it all on his own or only his way.... goes through a stage where he can't make an out... loses a bit of his work ethic and now the rest of the team is struggling so it shows through even more.

Hopefully we can get Justin back and Delmon can find some middle ground and Kubel can hit his way out of a wet paper bag.....

Excellent observations Coach!

I'm thinking a bit of fatigue and teams being more careful with him and knowing Delmon will swing at any bad pitch for the most part.

2 walks this month is not except-able and the opposing teams know it. Why throw him a strike if you don't have to.

And we need to move on from the Delmons a 25 year old excuse, he's been in the league 6 years now.

Delmon is a opportunistic (sp) hitter, throw him junk u get him out. Can't complain with his offense this year.

If this is directed at me, I guess I wasn't making an excuse, as I don't think I mentioned his age at all.... I just think it is a normal occurence with his slump and considering all the factors, I'm not real worried about it.

Good observations coach although I don't think Delmon lost his work ethic any more than other Twins have at points this season, in fact he started out lousy. Many players have great months or multiple good months and some awful months. Look at the monthly BA avg's high and low for these Twins this year.

Cuddy high BA of .317 in July, low of .235 in June

Mauer high BA of .382 in August, low of .271 in June

Kubel high BA of .316 in June, low of .219 in April

Young hig BA of .434 in July, low of .208 in August, (also .222 in April)

We've seen some very good stretches for Mauer, Cuddyer, Kubel and Delmon and some not so good ones. Here's hoping most of them can turn it on in the upcoming weeks and carry it through the post-season.

It was an encouraging sign.....the guys taking some pitches, and making the pitcher pitch. Mauer always does it(took one for the team), Kubel sometimes(took one for the team), Cuddy made him prove he could throw strikes....he couldn't...tie game, Young even took 1 or 2.....that helps him get one he can reach (rbi). Team game, everyone did their jobs for 2 innings at least. Looks to me like Gardy would like to get a running game going.....can't do it, not enough speed. Bullpen was strong tonight......very nice.

Well well well

Ps. I hope morneau is on his way back. Took for granted all the low throws he would dig out with ease.

Yeah great catch we probably lose the game if Delmon is in left-field last night no way he makes that catch.

Nice to see Delmon get the bat on the ball finally. Sometimes thats all it takes is a lucky seeing eye ground ball hit to snap out of a epic slump!

Cuddy was clutch again, of course we have come to expect that the last 3 years from MR August/Sept!!!!!

Go Twins!

Clutch Cuddy has pulled down high ones AND scooped up many low ones at first base, saved many errors.....he can't save them all. I think hudson got wacked on the arm trying to turn that one dp, that's why it landed 20' from first and jumped up so high on Cuddy's backhand side. Hardy's error was high and away...all 6'3" Cuddy barely reached it at all...and the runner knocked it out. Both were very bad throws.....can't blame him for them, any more than you can blame Mauer for our closers wildpitch.

Yah - I know he's doing ok, the throws were tough etc. I just couldn't resist the jab at PB and Cuddy-love. grin

Pier's Cuddy-love is hilarious...I'm starting to look forward to those regular man-love sessions, ridiculous as they may be smile

Twins fans can only pray that Cuddyer approaches SOME level of clutch-ness...he has certainly underperformed this year. His batting average of .259 in August is hardly something to rave about, and his August slugging percentage of .389 would only be considered acceptable for Nick Punto (and even that is a reach). And Cuddy is hitting a whopping .265 with runners in scoring position this year.

Clutch? Hardly.

Surprisingly, Cuddyer is only 2 runs below replacement level defensively at 1B this year. That's bad, but not nearly as bad as I had feared. And it's much better than the 12 runs below replacement he was in RF this year before he was mercifully forced to move to the infield.

So he's up to .265 or above the ML average now? That's weird listening to you rocket scientist I'd have thought he was hitting .ooo.

I get you guys will never recover from last Aug/Sept and thats OK...still embarrassing none the less.

As far as recent Clutch. I was refereeing to the late inning HR 2 games ago that would have won the game had Delmonty not blown the game with his glove again and the 2 RBI's again last night.

Go Twins!

I would expect Gardy to flip flop Cuddyer and Young any day now even though Cuddy gets on base more often for the season and has more RBI's then Del does over the last 100 at bats.....LOL!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
