Dave's Hardees is one of the cleanest ones I have ever walked into. The food there is also very good, fresh and hot.

Nice job Dave and employees.

Hi To All,

Appreciate all the nice comments, I can honestly saw I love going to work as much as fishing. I. Falls has really supported Hardees, and we are not perfect, far from it, but I can honestly saw we will always strive for perfection, and if something is not right, then we will make it right!!!

As far as the article Dennis Anderson wrote, it was well written, great for Rainy Lake & I. Falls., as I said before Dennis & his 2 Boys were 1ST

CLASS and I would show them around Rainy anytime!!!

I wish all who could come up here & love Rainy Lake could find employment & just stay here. They would come to love it as we all have.

THANKS AGAIN, YOUR KIND WORDS WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!!!

Sincerely,

Fishmeister

Fishhound thanks for the link to the Start and Trib. What a great read.

I have had the chance to work in a lot of towns in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin and I must say that some of the absolute nicest people have been from International Falls. They are the most down to earth and friendly people you could ever hope to run into and if you are up for a vacation they don't make you feel like you are a stranger in a new town but instead you feel very welcome. They are truly a first class town and it is NOT a act. I hope to make it up to fish Rainy this summer and I know my first stop is going to be for lunch at Dave's Hardee's.

Great article. Just makes you think if all sportsmen and women gave their sport alittle more, how much better things can be. Great job fishmeister.

Right on Woody! Dave's a class act all the way around. Looks like I'm not the only one trying to turn him to the dark side...bass fishing. grin

Fishmeister? Bass fishing? Forget it. Ain't happening. I've fished up here with him for 29 years (since he was a pup!) with smallmouth being my been my favorite species. Tried to convince him, twist his arm, trick him into getting interested in catching fish that always put up a fight. Nada. No response. The closest he's ever come is volunteering for the bass tourney.

Hey Captian John,

Just wanted to let you know, those walleyes are not always bottom feeders,

I have fished walleyes in 160 foot of water, seeing fish 80 feet down thinking they were lakers, and catching massive size walleyes suspended feeding on smelt, and alot of the winter, we catch them 20 foot off the bottom in select areas.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

& to my ever loving brother uffda pete, I will make a commitment to you, 2 times this summer, I will go fishing srickly smallies for a day, and just maybe if we do well enough, you will get me hooked.

HOPEFULLY...YOU WERE SITTING DOWN WHEN YOU READ THIS!!! L.O.L.

Love...your not so little baby brother!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sincerely,

Fishmeister

If you or Uffda want to go with me sometime, let me know. Course the way my bass fishing has been the last two weeks, not worth the effort.

I have caught walleyes three feet deep over 100+ feet of water on Eagle Lake. Huge swarms of bait had migrated to the surface just before sunset and the walleyes and pike were chowing down. Find the bait, the big ones are near.

I was sitting down. But I just fell off the chair. As soon as I regain conciousness gonna go buy some vegas jigs for the other hundred times we fish walleyes. Bet they work for smallies too.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge of Rainy. You and Dennis Anderson are both a class act. I never miss an opportunity to read a well written story by Dennis and you have always been quick to answer any question. Dark green jigs did you say?

Regards,

Wayne

Dave as usual you are a CLASS ACT! Nobody is a better ambassador for the Rainy/I Falls area. My wife and I may be up your way in August. Maybe we can get out in the boat together if we find a reasonable place to stay.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
