Hope to be out either friday afternoon or saturday. Maybe it will be like last sunday only 3 boats on the whole lake.

There's always someone there fishing. Work the 8-11 FOW with a slip bobber about 6 ft down with a minnow and you'll catch them. That's what worked for me and the closer to shore, the more pike there is.

Thanks for the tip, I live right next to WBL but don't seem to hit it often. I'm pretty lost out there and can never seem to find decent size fish so I appreciate the pointer. I never keep anything, just out for the fun of it!

Yes Ramsey beach launch will work. You might want to launch in the center of the 2 ramps because it is just a pot hole. I drop my 19' ranger in their with no problems. You will have to beach the boat so you might want a boot that can step in the water and not get wet inside.

I was out there this afternoon, launched at the beach, i put in on one side but needed to go down the middle to get it out for a chance of sitting level on the trailer. Worked the 10' break out from from the beach with a slip bobber and 1 inch gulp minnows, caught 2 largemouth on the shallow side and several smaller crappies.

Wish that sun would have more than peeked out, would have made it a better day.

I got out there today in my kayak, I was shocked at the amount of boats out. And everyone was bunched up to the right of ramsey beach.

Really! In White Bear Lake? wink

That lake has gotten absolutely pounded in the last 4 years. There are a few in there, but quality fish are not in the number they once were.

There are still some quality fish left just gotta find them. Find the pack of boats and you've found the 8" honey hole.

My wife and I got out yesterday evening for an hour or so before we got blown off the lake. She had one mid-sized crappie and I had "something big with teeth" take my whole rig on a hard bite. Probably a pike. We were drifting way too quick to do much though with the strong winds. Hoping to try again tonight!

I have never fished this lake before, but am thinking about hitting it a few times this week between 5-9pm. Any tips on where to find the eyes and what is working?

Thanks

We did get out again on Monday and had better luck - but as is typical out here - ended up with a smattering of species. 2 crappie, 5 bass, 2 small pike. One bass was incredibly hefty... big female.

The 8 inch honey hole has a lot of 8 inch crappies. You will also catch bonus 12+ inch crappies once in awhile and the occasional pike and bass.

Plug these coordinates into your GPS......45 degrees 4 minutes 34.95 seconds North 95 degrees 59 minutes 22.34 seconds West.

I did that and ended up someplace close to Donnelly North Dakota.

It should be 92 not 95 hit the wrong key.

Considering Nodak's eastern border is roughly 96 degrees 34 minutes west and the southern border is roughly 45 degrees 56 minutes.

You entered something wrong.

So my wife caught some NICE crappie last Sunday... the largest was 12" on the nose... best I've seen come out of WBL in the two years we've been fishing it...

Today was my first try at WBL, got out there around 4pm or so and fished until 9pm. Had 1 tiny pike, and nothing else, not even bites or follows. I was throwing cranks, spinners, top waters, and bulldogs hoping to find bass, pike or muskie. Spent most of the day in 15 fow, but experimented with shallower and deeper.

The water had pretty bad clarity, so perhaps that's why my luck wasn't better.

On the bright side, the people on the lake were friendly and it wasn't too busy out there. Maybe the state fair kept the traffic down.

Might not have to wear ear plugs when I mow!      That’s a spendy one.  It wasn’t hard to find one of those for $6k.  Comparatively and Ariens of the same size is $4,200.  A home owner grade JD for $3,900.  You could get into a commercial grade Z700 for maybe $8k.   I think the work I did today with mine would’ve killed that one there.

On the south end...   This year's MN Fishing Opener weekend was not only great weather wise, the walleyes and saugers were caught in good numbers.  A main fish gut hauler working with a number of resorts commented it was one of the most productive opening weekends he has seen based on the amount of fish guts collected after the weekend. The goto presentation was a jig and frozen emerald shiner.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.  Other minnows worked also, but emerald shiners are a favorite of anglers for good reason.   Four Mile Bay held good walleyes in 12 - 18'.  Not a surprise as the walleye bite on the river during the spring season was good and as of late, sturgeon anglers have been reporting catching walleyes on sturgeon rigs.   The Lighthouse Gap area, Morris Point Gap and just in front of Pine Island held nice fish in 12 - 15'.  Across the south shore, 18 - 22' was holding good numbers as well.  As you can see, there are lots of fish around.     A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well.   As a reminder, the limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes were caught on the river this weekend, although most anglers hit the lake.  10 - 15' of water was the norm.     Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season continues through May 15th and then closes until the keep season starts up again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Some nice walleyes were caught in 18 - 25 feet of water, a little deeper than anticipated.  Points were good as were areas with structure.  The morning and evening bite was best.       As water continues to warm, go to spots for walleyes will be neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays.     The goto presentation was a jig and minnow.

I found this dock wheel floating in Black Bay. If it's yours or you know whom it belongs to, go and grab it.
