White Bear Lake Fishing Reports

Recommended Posts

little bit of snow...probably 4-6"s in most areas, and a drift could be deeper...but in a 4WD truck or 4wd suv....you can get around anywhere you want...just have a shovel handy just in case. Good Luck!

How much snow is on the lake after this week of weather patterns?

A car would get stuck if it free roamed,It may be ok for a car on hard packed "road areas" on the west and north sides. 4 wheel drive truck is good to go all over but you will need momentum for the drifts and there is a lot of slush-water on the ice. East side is passable with 4x4 Truck only. Bring a shovel, kitty litter and a tow strap or walk out from Bellaire.

Good Luck!

Bellaire was pretty beat up tonight 4x4 only there. Park and walk out as it isn't too far a walk.

North side has the plowed road that has been there. East side has a road but there is a giant bump going out and to the right is wet a nd rutty.

Where does the east side road start? At the Mahtomedi beach park?
Yep, but it's a bugger to get on to unless you have a 4x4 truck as there is the heave at the beach going straight out and some monster ruts if you go to the north to get around the heave.

I went out from the Ramsey Beach in my 2wd truck and was fine.

I had to spin a little bit but it was okay.

Fished for 4 hours from 5-9 PM and didn't manage anything.

I fished Saturday from 1pm til 8pm....fished in 13FOW....caught a few 8" perch (they were bigger then what I normally catch), 3 9-10" crappies, and my buddy caught 1 little northern...bite was slow...but it was a great day on the ice!

Where back on the bear. After early ice success on the bear with crappies .We decided to come back to the bear. Done walleye fishing for the.year. gonna be hitting it up as much as possible. Gonna do some slab seekin. Got out last night from 4-8 in the horrible wind. Drilled a couple holes. dropped vex . found weeds. found weed line . Bam marked fish. Set shack up. Dropped lines at fish.(suspended) bam caught three in first three minutes couple 8 1/2ers and a 10 that made the two look small. Figured I stay put cause of wind. Caught a couple small sunniest after that. Marked fish the whole time on Bottom figured they where small perch. Had a few lookers suspended that wouldn't hit it. Glad we didn't get skunked . Was in 16 feet of water. Anyone doing good deep???? Seems like there still in the weeds

That lake they will be in the weeds all year long.
Not if "conservation"(LOL) district treats some of those weeds. They will move away from those treated areas which will concentrate them.

Is there amy bad spot in the ice out there

Probably???not. Stay away below the bridge and the tip of Manitou and you should be good. We have posted a list of bad areas earlier on this thread. Please be cautious where ever you go. Free-roam is getting difficult even in a 4x4 as I helped pull a guy out of a snow bank out there last night.

Was out Sunday, the Sunnies were biting, the ice was plenty fine (24"+) out of Belaire, I'm sure at this point the beach area is getting pretty beat up and very likely still accessible with your vehicle, the ruts on the other hand with be an adventure out there.

you were right on the money. it was a fun ride to get out onto the ice with all the ruts. over 24 inches of ice from what i could tell.

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year

I don't think its 100% accurate, you are just relying on other average joes to report precipitation. But I think most numbers there are right in the ball park, especially when you see consistency among multiple reports in a general area.   It's probably more accurate than what the weather terrorists say on the news  which usually only reports metro areas. cocorahs is good for getting rural area reports you just might not have as many reports to go off of
