sun 1-31-10 i had my house out on the southern tip of barnacles flat. about 4:15 i left to help a friend set his house up on deans flat. i came back at about 7:15 to find my tv, vexilar, aqua vu, electric auger, digital camera, dvds, all of my tackle, and way more than i care to list all gone. there was a white GMC sierra 2500 in a newer clam portable about 100 feet away. i hate to point fingers but i have to suspect it was them. there was nobody else around me and i kept looking out of my buddies window( i think its only about a half mile away). never saw any lights or movement other than them. i filed a police report but we all know that never really helps. that really cuts a season short when you have no more equipment. so everyone be aware of who is around you and when you leave take your important stuff with you. even if you are still within sight. sucks for me but hopefully it will help someone else. be safe.

that sucks.

although it's too late for you, hopefully somebody will read your post and think twice about ever leaving valuable stuff unsupervised in their house.

good luck getting your stuff back, you never know...

Sorry to hear the bad news. Let's all keep an eye out for everyone out there, and if ya see someone different at a house or even looking, go talk to them atleast.

If this keeps happening when will people get the message and never leave anything in a house unattended, even if you are only a half a mile away. When we leave the house even if we are going to town we take everything even the tv not worth the risk of having it stolen.

OK buddy. crazy We just need to watch out for our neighbors, not pack everything away like you are going home. I suppose the heat should be shut off too? grin

I am with the guy that said take it with you then you will have it when you get back. For some reason there are to many crooks on the lakes looking for quick and hefty payday's. Just think of the amount of money you might have invested in fishing equipment and tackle and the majority of it can be grabbed and left the scene in a matter of seconds. I know I have 2 graphs ($900) 4 poles and reels ($350) and bag full of tackle ($300) that if I were to leave unattended it would take 10 seconds to take and be gone. All of them are small and easy to grab yet have alot of value!!! Something to think about the next time you go to the bar or make a run to a friends ice house or town. How easy is it to take your vexilar and rods and tackle with you? For me it is 2 minutes of putting things in their place and loading up. Inconvienence YES but so is having everything taken from me!!

Always do. I might look paranoid to my buddies, but I'll still have my stuff when I get back.

It is sad that we have to remove anything of value when we leave even if only for a short time. Fellas call be paranoid but anything of value goes with me when I leave the house.

My buddies used to give me [PoorWordUsage] that i would pack up the whole house even for going town until my buddy had a tv and a generator and a whole bunch of tackle stolen while on a bait run on his sled

i used to be among those who called it paranoya(sp), but now when i do have stuff worth taking it will be in the truck with me. even if im only a half mile away. call it an expensive lesson learned.

just a question for you but why didnt you go and ask the guys in the truck if they have seen anything and at the same time looking around to see if you could see any of your stuff in their truck

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
