Demontreville Fishing Reports

I agree, they should have signs in different language or draw a picture stating "Catch and Release" only. You can't assume I keep fish just because of my race and ethnicity. I've seen all types of race with Bass on stringers and I'm pretty upset because I do it for the sport.

I fish for the sport. A beautiful fish like this 7lb 12oz I caught was released but most would have kept to mount.

I tried to launch out there a few weeks ago, and could not get my 16' bass boat in. I was not willing to drive my Jeep off the concrete ramp and into the sand. Not sure if that would have gotten the boat in anyway.

I think it's convenient for anyone to display bewilderment towards a sign at a boat ramp. I don't think the problem is in the signage, but in the CO staffing. And it's not unique to Minnesota either. There just isn't a lot of money to pay enough of them anywhere in the country. I fish a fair amount between Minnesota and New England, and have yet to be checked for a license or compliant fish in the live well in my 29 years. I don't break the law, but it surprises me that I have not been checked at least once! While not a viable option at this point due to states' budgets, more COs wandering around would result in more people paying attention to the regulations. I wonder if the increase in violations and fines (I'm assuming this stat) would pay a few more CO salaries for a short while?

That's a hog Eyefishalot! Did it come out of Demontreville?

No, that came out of pool 4 on May 2, 2010. Although, i have caught 5's out of Demontreville. That lake produce some nice fish since its only a catch and release lake.

Do the bass you guys catch on Demontreville have big heads and skinny bodies? My buddy caught a 21" fish there a couple years ago and it barely weight 4 1/2 pounds.

Yes, that is quite common. Big heads and little bodies. You would think with all the small sunfish they would have plenty to eat, but maybe a diet of small sunfish doesn't cause big bodied fish.

Does anyone have an update on the Demontreville or Lake Jane ramps that has been there recently? I have the week off and may head over to one or both lakes. I was hoping with the amount of rain in the last month or so that conditions have improved a bit.

i have not used the demontreville ramp this year but i saw a bunch of boats out there last week and the parking lot was full so i would think it is alright to use.

fished demontreville today with decent luck. dozen or so bass, mostly under docks and parked pontoons. ramp was fine, plenty of water to launch 20ft V's. fair number of other boats on the water, but nothing overwhelming. fishing jigs on the bottom or pulling cranks along weed lines produces a lot of strands of foliage as the weeds are dying off and aren't rooted very strongly.

Any walleyes coming out of there yet. I know they started stocking about 7-8 yrs ago. I got a few 18 iners a few yrs back on Olson.

Looks like it hasnt been stocked since 2005.

I know they have been stocked since at least 2001, maybe earlier. Judging from the reports I don't think it was very successful....

I've been out the last few Sat or Sun in the early morning and had some bites. With the water up, the lake is getting pounded pretty good - the lot fills up by 9-10am most weekends. Still waiting for the water temps to drop into the low 50's (should be soon) for any sort of bunched up fish. No big fish yet this fall though frown Haven't tried to get into Olson - might be some better fishing to be had if you could...

I fished demontreville on saturday morning for a few hours and caught six. I tried crankbaits, plastic minnows, plastic worms and plastic lizards in a variety of presentations and colors and didn't catch any. The six that I caught were all on a yellow spinnerbait. The first 3 that I caught were in deeper water and hit it after I allowed it to sink for 10 seconds before retrieving. The last 3 were caught closer to shore with the lure only down 1 foot. The fish lengths were 13,14,15,16,16 and 18".

That's what I thought, although I read your response in terms of the walleye chain above. I've pulled out a 4.5 and 5.2 lb bass out of there 3 weeks ago, in addition to some smaller ones. Great bass lake.

I read a fishing report today from a well-known newspaper and it stated that people are catching walleye out of Demontreville. I have always thought of this lake as a mainly bass, pike, and panfish lake.

I havent been out to Demontriville in a few years. Heard you couldnt even get on it the last few becasue of the low water. It sounds like most metro lakes have high water right now. Did Demontriville come back up to normal?

It is full. It came up 18 or more inches since the ice started melting. Lake Jane is still very low. It has only come up a few inches and will still be hard to get a boat out with any size to it.

Remind the people you see on Demontreville fishing for bass now that the season is closed and that the lake is catch and release only when the season is open. I think a lot of bass are going home from both of these lakes and it is hurting the bass fishing. I call the CO on people breaking the law on these lakes once in a while when I see it. The Co for that area is Brad Johnson and his number is 651-646-8200.

you've got brad's number too ey? lol..well, not too sure about Demontriville but Jane has definitely lost quite the bass population it had, or at least in size.

when exactly does the small/largemouth bass season start? i know demontreville (and most metro lakes) are C&R only for bass but the info i saw on the dnr site was a tad confusing:

Actually the majority of lakes are not strickly C&R, but there are several that are strickly catch and release. The opener for Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass in the Metro area is May 28th this year. Some areas up north open for both species of bass the same as Walleye/Pike/Sauger/Lake Trout opener (May 14th this year).
