Any one have luck with northern any where on the river? I'm relatively new to the area and would like to get into some pike action and not just snakes. I also have a open seat for tomorrow if any ones interested.

GOOD ICE EVERY WHERE IN THAT BAY EXCEPT AROUND THE DISCHARGE ITSELF CHECK OFTEN WHERE EVER YOU GO YOU WILL BE SUPPRISED HOW CLOSE YOU CAN GET TO THE WARM OPEN WATER GARUNTEED ACTION FOR PIKE

GOOD LUCK

Rumor has it that some huge brown crapppies have been observed drifting by just under the ice by the discharge.

Guys make sure you are keeping up on your regs. The harbor has different limitds than inland and way to manny illegal/ protected/over limits are happening

True that. I thought the river was 2 lines all year. I've noticed many Wisconsinites angling with 3 lines....

Ya I'd hate to fall through the ice by the discharge...eewww. I fished that thing once right before everything froze up. I caught one pike and about a bizillion white perch. I thought it woulda been better.

As far as the harbor it was pretty hot but seems to have come to a screeching halt lately...especially for the females. Hopefully another wave comes in soon.

Fished the river up near floodwood this evening. Managed to C&R a few eyes right before dark, nearly was blown away in the wind tho.

Man am I glad I have a Full Thermal Otter Pro Lodge! Once set up I was nice and toasty. Setting up and taking down were another thing. BRRRRRRR!

Fishing was a lot like the weather. Cold. I did manage a couple eyes but they hit the deadstick, jigging brought them in but they wouldnt hit the spoons, jigs or jiggin raps.

I guess I will wait for some warmer weather before I head out again. Maybe hit fish lake tomorrow where I can drive out.

Not a bad night by any means. But did not find size. We landed 9 total but missed as many. Still a fun night and even know it was super cold it ended up being worth it! Looking forward to tomorrow.....

Just a heads up USCGC ALDER will break through the channel one more time on Friday mid morning. We antipate one more laker coming in for winter lay up probably on Saturday. After that we are not moving from the pier until March. Have a great day everyone and stay warm.

Saw the tugboats running the shipping lane today. Not safe next to the channel yet. Especially anyone coming from Wisconsin side thinking they'll access Mn side.

Ya they should post that in the paper, because I believe they said last thursday the breaker was done cutting...Someone could just assume the channel is good and get himself in some trouble...This is why you obviously never assume things when it comes to ice, but some people do...

Does anyone know how long it will be till we can drive off the park point landing? Any suggestion will help.

Whoa, thanks for the heads up on the cutter...ya, I thought it was all done with and with the cold weather figured I'd try some channel edges...guess not. I was wondering why that laker was sitting out from the lift bridge today.

I would not drive until the cutter and tugs stay docked. Even then I wouldnt drive in some areas like over towards the island below the high bridge. Of course no where within a mile of the entries.

Thank you sir. I kinda figured as much. It's tough dragging out when the snow builds up. Much appreciated for the advice. I'm heading to mil lacs tomorrow. I'll post with a report

We used Chubbs and rainbows during the beginning of the week and the bite seemed to transition to leeches later in the week.

22 has killed more game than anything, including deer!

not too bad at my place, but they are starting to come out. about the only time they get abundant is when I pull my skeeter out of the garage.😁

i reckon the skeeters are starting to get a bit over abundant about now????????🥴

Shamrock Landing and Grubens marina have both sold minnows/bait in past years, not sure about current season

I am not aware of anywhere in the west basin to get minnows. Hopefully I am wrong.

The only place on the East end (unless i'm mistaken and don't know of some semi-secret place) that sells minnows on the lake is the Casino bait shop on Everett Bay. Whether they have rainbows is hit and miss. I'm not including Timbuktu as East side   Getting off-lake, the best value for rainbow for me over the last 10 years has been Lucky 7 in Virginia.

was up at the lake all week, water temps 65-66 today, and the crappies are now spawning. did not try for walleyes this week, but got my eye on a couple of lakes.

On the south end...   Good fishing this week with nice numbers of walleyes and saugers.   A jig and frozen emerald shiner again this week is the go to presentation for walleyes.  Rainbows and fatheads are also working and it is nice to see what the fish want each day.   Various areas across the south shore are holding fish.  Most walleyes and saugers are being caught in 17 - 24' of water.  Anglers are anchoring up and vertical jigging. A quarter ounce jig in gold, glow white, pink, orange, chartreuse, or a combo of these colors tipped with a minnow worked well again.  Pound the bottom, jig it up in the strike zone, hold.  Trying shaking the jig and lifting it off of the bottom.  Any kind of weight will be a fish hanging.  Set the hook! A mixed bag while fishing walleyes include pike, jumbo perch and a few crappies.  On the Rainy River...  Some nice walleyes caught  this week on the river in 10 - 15' of water.  Typical spots such as holes, current breaks, weed edges and rocky areas all can hold fish.  There are 42 miles of navigable waters from the mouth of the river all the way to Birchdale.    Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is closed until the keep season starts up again July 1st.   The river holds good numbers of smallmouth bass for those interested in bronzebacks.  A lot of bass are caught by unsuspecting walleye anglers. Up at the NW Angle...  A great week of fishing.  As typical with guests staying at the Angle, some fish MN waters, some slide over into Ontario waters.  Both areas are producing.     Points, neck down areas and bays with warming water have been holding walleyes.  With warming waters, fish are in transition and there are lots of fish.   The goto presentation is a jig and minnow.  Gold, glow white, pink and orange are good colors.
