Peterson fumbles.. AGAIN

Big A

Recommended Posts

You didn't listen very closely to the game announcers today!

Troy Aikman said specificaly that Emmit Smith Did NOT switch hands when he ran the ball and did not have issues with fumbling. It is not neccesarily a problem with AP's technique, although I am not too sure that anyone of us are in a position to critique AP's technique. grin

Yeah... he fumbles, but I'll take him anyday, fumbles or no fumbles.... Anybody can run through a big hole and get 5 yards.... Peterson can fly through a crack... run over a linebacker....stiff arm a safety and run away from a D-back all in one run... I'll put up with a few fumbles...

Part of gaining all of the extra yards is keeping those arms swinging and evading tacklers.

Exactly!!!!! This is why AP is the best back in the league......it's also the reason he coughs it up from time to time.

Example: Try running as fast as you can with one arm tucked to your side. Then do it with both your arms pumping....Your gonna move alot faster with both your arms pumping.

To even think about trying to change his technique is laughable. The guy is a beast!!!!!

I worded that wrong...haha......you catch my drift!!

Why would you not change his technique in how he carries the ball to make him less of a fumbler??? I agree the guy is a BEAST and by far my favorite back to watch, you all are missing the point!! Why should he not try to fix his fumbling problem cause if he does fix it, he basically will have NOTHING bad with his game!! It's part of wanting to be the BEST, if i had that problem i would do everything possible to fix it!!

Maybe he is afraid of tucking the ball in and protecting the ball. Maybe he thnks he will keep making left turns if he does. Its a no brainer COVER THE BALL in conjested areas. The way he is going now he will be rememered as the guy that could have been great.

The guy seems to be a great guy and all but the luv fest aint doing him no favors. I would take Robert Smith over AP right now.

Pretty basic and taught at a very young age that you craddle the ball and keep it close to your body. I love the stiff arms he throws, they are nasty, but you can still throw a stiff arm and keep the ball close instead of keeping it away from your body where you have no control over it!!

I'm sorry, but that my friend is laughable.... Robert Smith is just like hundreds of backs that have played in the NFL... AP is discussed with about 5.

I would take a dependable back that makes 1200 to 1500, his final season and was considered at his peak, yards or more a year and carries the ball 476 times without a fumble. Fumble 9 total times and losing 5 of those in his career over a back that puts the ball on the field on regular basis and makes 1500 yards a year any time.

6800 hundred yards in 8 years you say hundreds have achieved this. Who are they? Man the luv fest builders are are thick.

Change his technique and you might also be taking away what makes him great. Do you think there is a reason that in his 3rd year that the coaching staff hasnt messed with his technique?

So.........what you are saying is that the Vikings millions of dollars worth of coaches, Oklahomas millions of dollars worth of coaches and his high school coaches were all wrong to let AP carry the ball the way he does or were not inteligent enough to discover this conclusion that YOU have discovered?

I would like to hear their reason cause if i was a coach i certainly wouldn't want him fumbling the ball 8-10 times a season! I have no problem with him holding the ball away from his body if he is in the open and givin her hell.....but when a defender is coming close it should be pretty obvious that you would protect the ball wouldn't ya???

NO........I am saying that he was probably taught these things but doesn't stick it in his head to do it when he is carrying the ball!! You can tell when he fumbles that it is eating him alive by the expressions on his face, it probably a mental thing more than anything!!

I can recall one time, against the lions, when he was in the wide open and had the ball away from his body and got it stripped. Every other fumble is when he has 2 people draped on him. Now how many times has he threw away the 2 people that were draped on him and took it downfield for big yardage. Tell him to stop fighting for the extra yardage and you also lose a big percentage of his big plays.

I believe i mentioned that and you shot it down as no way, its mechanical.

Right, he had two people draped on him with the ball away from his body.....pretty obvious that it will get stripped! He doesn't even need to put two hands on the ball, but at least tuck it away when he has guys draped on him!!

Anyways........I've said my points! If you all like the fact that he is a fumbler and shouldn't try to fix it to be the BEST running back in the league then you all are dillusional!! AP is the man but needs to work on the ball handling....period

Put his other hand on the ball, like he should do when engulfed with defenders, and it probably doesn't happen!!

I've never seen Roberts Smith do this.

You get my point though, dude!! The first one you showed could have been prevented by covering up the ball!! I rather him hang on to the ball than try to get an extra yard and fumble it for a touchdown by the opposition!!

And on all the other big plays he has had where he has thrown someone off of him, you would also just have him go down with 2 hands on the ball with 1 guy tackling him rather than fighting off the guy and going 20, or maybe 60 yards farther downfield?

HAHA.......just never give up do ya!! The first clip big dave showed was awesome! He had the ball in his LEFT HAND, like he should, and used his off hand to throw off a defender! It doesn't get any better than that!! He should cover up with two hands though if he has 2 or 3 guys draped on him, i would much rather us keep the ball than have the opposition cause a fumble, recover it, and take it for a td or just lose us that possession!! Pretty common sense, u should know this james, you are the almighty NFL know it all!! wink

Its very simple, i don't think you cure the problem without taking away alot of what makes him great. If you could, i believe in his 3rd year in the leauge the coaches would have addressed it. But you seem to know more than the OK and vikings coaching staffs yet call me the NFL know it all LOL, good stuff.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
