It's July and I'm counting down the days to the season. Anyone else getting the itch real bad? This will be my first year back in MN after attending college in Montana for 4 years. Here are my bucks from the last couple years out there. I'm gonna miss the thousands of acres of public land that these guys called home...

If I'd have known then what I know now, I'd have gone to a school in WY, MT, CO, ID, NM, or NV and probably never made it back home.

Even tho I'm dressed for a casual walk, I am sprayed down with scent, and showered in deeraway soap! Only hunters in this forum realize that even us hunters are going in full rut, except we are actually dismissing the ladies for awhile! LOL ! This is one ticked off buck. He knows his favorite time of year is here, so lady deer beware! I don't think he'll be bedding down too much, he's cranking up for some bar hoppin! Oh, oh deer fever has begun....

I wouldn't recommend scouting in tennis shoes.

Funny Kyle. But those are my tennis shoes, as well as hat, jacket, jeans etc. I toss in my scent bag, and only use in the woods. This little trip in the woods is only to get some fresh air. My real scouting takes place soon, and then I really bear down, change into real scouting clothes, and become one in the woods, ahh....can't believe the best time of the year is upon us! The tennis are great for deer drives, however in a dry warm year. Ha!

You must hunt a lot higher ground then we do. Most of our deer drives hip boots are your friend.

Ya, bigbucks, successful deer hunters usually have hip boots in their arsenal, and mud slung up on their trucks. That means your going in after em! Good luck!

Not sure how this will show up. Had trouble getting it from my phone at a decent size. My buddy hasn't sent me his camera pics yet. Shot this muley in WY last Friday with my rifle. We only went 1-4.

Thanks, we hunted Tuesday through Saturday mid morning. He's a perfectly symetrical 4 X 4. Not much mass, but fairly tall, & decent width. Probably a 2 1/2 year-old, maybe 160 lbs. dressed. I hit him between the eyes with my third shot, effective, but not exactly the plan...

207 yards, severely down hill. First two shots were standing, then when he got into motion I drilled him... I tell you he fell like a sack of potatoes & tumbled about 15' down the ridge.

I absolutely love the details of a hunt, the shot, the conditions, what goes thru your mind. Ahh.. Only a deer hunter gets excited about shot placement and all the little nuances of the hunt!! My thoughts are now officially about the woods for the next month...

Got my bow doe last night. 19 yards, double lunger, she went about 40 yards into a hayfield & collapsed. She was struggling BIG TIME from the first jump. Nice to see you smoke them & see them go down.

I was just ready to draw on a big lone gobbler at about 25 yards, when he saw me & flew off. That was about a half hour before I shot the doe. That would have been an awesome double. Going out with my daughter with the shotguns tonight to try to fill those tags. Went Tuesday with my son & he missed one. I could have shot one earlier on that outing, but was trying to get him on it & he was too slow on the draw.

Also here's the bow doe in the truck headlights, not a very good pic. I saw her fall in the hayfield, so I just waited until dark in case a big boy came by.

He sure is lucky. This year he shot his first turkey with a 9.5" beard, his first goose (flying) and now this buck.

The older brother missed a tom with his bow (arrow hit the blind).

While duck hunting we discovered the "2nd weekend" was CLOSED! (split season). Got back to shore before shooting light.

He has yet to see a deer on the bowstand. I'm hoping Ripley will be nice to him this weekend!

Oh well, at least we had the cover last year. :-)
