thanks guys! a lot a sweat, blood, and hard-work went into harvesting those deer (and the 13antlerless) in that 3 year period.

Hunted the same land for nine days with the bow and didnt see a deer. Then saturday of gun opener shot this 135" eight pointer. Walked by a neighbors stand but he was to hung over to make it out there in the morning. Then on sunday the gf hit a 150ish ten pointer that the nighbors nocked down and claimed.full-33398-6204-bigeight.jpg

This past Saturday my daughter took a great buck to close out her final Iowa youth season. We named him the Crabclaw Six, because the entire time we watched him prior to the shot, we thought he was a giant 6 pointer. This nearly saved his life, as we went back and forth between shoot or pass, but ultimately I left the decision up to her, as it was obviously a mature buck. She put a 245 grain power belt through his heart at relatively close range, and after a short recovery, we found out he had tiny little crab claw points (just over an inch) on each main beam...so technically an 8. This was the biggest bodied deer I'd ever struggled to help load in a truck, and his mass and frame were awesome. This was one of those father/daughter hunts I'm sure neither of us will ever forget. Congrats Boo...you're always welcome in the blind :-)

What a giant! Id give anything for one of those! Congrats to her on a mature buck!!

Thanks guys...Krista enjoys reading these posts. We try to be pretty selective in the bucks we take on this property, and yes, at one point I was convinced that passing was the right thing to do. This was one of those deer that got bigger after he hit the ground, and once we got our hands on him we felt pretty silly for ever considering not shooting him. Good luck to all of you with your seasons!!

WOW, congrats on that buck I love the mass and length. There's some thing I love about those big 6 and 8's.

Wow What a beast! Congratulations!

Finally got my deer down. Nothing big by any means, but it was the first thing to walk by and we needed CAMP MEAT! So i figured i might as well lay the smack down on him. 20yds broadside right at dark. Made a beautiful shot and he went maybe 40yds? The slick trick did some REAAAL damage! Gettin back up to the shack this weekend!! Good luck fellas.

Table is updated below.  Opening day is likely in jeopardy.  Lots of good dates available for those sitting on the sideline.

That's ok, got the Bear hunting out of my system years ago.  Still have some good spots on the GPS up in the Arrow head!  Did love me some good greasy bear roasts though!  😋

Yes, I'm on the West End.  No crappies yet, but I caught a couple of Cisco's and some perch this morning. Been dealing with chores at the cabin since 10 AM, so not much fishing.

10 inches of snow in cook this morning. 53 was pretty messy

Hard to tell exactly how much snow the way the wind was blowing it around, close to that I'll bet!  3 sleds went by earlier. Brian, are you on the west end? Did you fish?  Catch any crappies?

I was on the lake this morning. There is still a lot of ice. I went down to the housing on my auger a couple of times.  I'm not sure how much snow we got yesterday and last night but it looks like around 7 to 8 inches at least.

This is going to slow things down!
