My dad and I did our remote wilderness hunt again this year opening weekend. I didn't see a buck worth shooting, but my dad got a pretty nice 10 pointer Sunday at 10:00 a.m. What a beautiful day. Dead calm and the woods was literally alive with activity all day. Public land and we have about 2 square miles all to ourselves. Didn't see a speck of orange all weekend. It doesn't get any better than that. Headed back up this weekend and hopefully Lady Luck will be on my side this time!

I'm working on a stone chimney across from the main entrance to UMD this big boy was guarding a doe fro an 8 pointer and a fork horn, I started getting a little to close for comfort, he put his head down and took a few steps toward me....I quikly retreated and went back to work.

I was hunting this guy, but unfortunatly the neighbor got him opening day. I didn't get any after pics because he already had it hanging, but he was a giant bodied deer. The rack isn't bad either...G2's wee both over 11"! I am jealous and bummed, but relieved to know I won't be hunting a ghost next weekend. full-20564-3056-mdgc0022.jpg

Congrats to everyone. There are some great pics on here.

I was fortunate enough on opening day, to harvest my biggest deer to date, a 6x7 that scores 155 3/8.

Some nice deer!!

bmp78. Did that horse come from Wells County by any chance? I shot one almost identical to that deer out there 3 years ago. Nearly the same antler symmetry, and score!

It's a sleeper state! Really beautiful deer everyone. Nice to see the kids in pics as well!

Not sure about the score, Surewood. But he sure is a dandy old buck! Love the junk he's carrying. And no, not that "junk". blush Nice character in that rack, and the dark brown cap!

Lots of really good bucks showing up. Leave me one for muzzy season, huh?

This deer came out of the 3E2 area. We have not seen one like this before on the farm given the spread and tine length. The spread on the deer was 22 1/2 inches and had one tine on the left beam broken off (about 11 inches long). How has your hunt been going this year?

Iceman,

That must have been somebody else with the same tent. We are about 2 miles from the nearest road.
