I'll be out of town and cannot make it to the fishing tourney but I bought some raffle tickets... make sure my ticket is the $10K winner! Thanks!

If a couple of my buddies don't want to get up as early, can I reserve holes for them until they arrive? We do this at Brainerd, but I wanted to check?

Thanks.

CrappieNut,

Yes you can use hers to fish a second hole. It doesn't matter which ticket you use. Here's the important thing, when you go up to register a fish, that's where you need to enter your ticket number, name and phone number on a weigh-in slip. The ticket number will be the number of the ticket your wearing on your jacket.

Hope that helps.

Fishapalooza I bought two tickets one for jiggin and the other for tip up. If you win a prize is that the only one you can win or can one person win two prizes not includung the raffle.

Do you need a ticket to enter the tournament area? My dad doesnt want to buy a ticket because he can't stay for the whole time, but he wants to come and hang out for a while, can he do that?

See rule #9 on our web site. "No contestant will be eligible for more than one contest prize."

Glad to see there are still fish left in the lake after the contest. I was out there today with my nephew & sister, caught a 35" northern with a 16" girth about 100yds from the contest perimeter. Fish was easily over 10lbs (biggest pike I've ever caught on the lake in my 15yrs up here). The fish is still swimming...

Thanks to the good folks who put this tournament on. They did a great job and we had a lot of fun again this year. Nice day out there, too, although my face is showing the effects of the sun and wind today smile

Already looking forward to next year...

ETA: I think the winning fish was about 5.15lbs which was fairly close to the winning size back in 08. Overall, though, the fish were smaller than last time. Two years ago, I think there were only a couple fish under a pound that won prizes in the top 104 spots. Yesterday, there were several. I would think they'll have the offical results up on the tourney web site within a day or two here. There was a link to another site with the full results earlier but now it just says to check back.

P.S. nice pike, DP

Interesting question. While MN rules say you can fish two lines in winter, tournament rules say 1 line per ticket(max 2). I think you'd probably have to leave your tip up out of the water until you come back so your buddy doesnt get caught fishing two holes with only one ticket. I could be wrong on that, though. Hopefully, Fishapalooza(Dan) can clarify.

And your question actually brings up another one that I am sure gets asked a lot...can you give a fish you catch to a buddy to register? The rules state a person may register as many fish as they catch, but only their largest counts. They also state (from Rule 7) "Fish may only be registered by their rightful owner, but exceptions are made for the handicapped." The wording "rightful owner" I take to mean the person who catches the fish, but I could see it being open for interpretation depending on who is reading the rule. Obviously, if you have a fish registered already and you catch another one, giving it to a buddy preserves the opportunity for two prizes whereas registering it yourself guarantees only one(if that). So, it becomes pretty important to know who exactly the rightful owner is in order to avoid trouble.

Like I said, I am pretty sure the idea is only the person who catches the fish can register it, but the rules could be re-worded to spell that out more clearly. Again, maybe Dan(or someone else from the Fishapalooza team) can help with this...

Corbin, Myself and a friend of his from College fished in it this year.. we had SO much fun! Even if the fish weren't hopping on lines for us, we made the best of it. I caught the only tiny perch of our group, and that was after we wasted two hours on an outer perimeter where we got nothing! I think the boys switched baits and lures 20+ times.. I just stuck with the same old. We were glad we brought a football and ended up wrestling around the ice for the 4 hours before it started. What a place to be on a such a nice day, we will be coming back next year... and hopefully taking something home as well!! It was run very well and we hope it will be put on next year and there won't be another year wait!

Here are a few pics smile

People all around me were lucky however, it was not my groups’ year. We all still had a great time even though the only fish caught was a massive three inch perch. This event was very well run so hats off to all who were a part of it. I participated in drilling holes the evening before and that was an experience in itself. The sound of 60 + augers ripping thorough 2 feet of ice was really cool. It sounded like the worst swarm of mosquitoes imaginable. Also thanks Ferny for the custom rod holders they are really sweet and will definitely be put to use.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
