Fishing has been spotty the past few days. Best luck on slip bobbers vs. active jigging. I'm going to try a couple of different spots this week.

Any Ida reports this weekend?

It has been hit and miss for us. Started in 28-30 feet of water and got a couple. Moved in to 23-24 yesterday and ended up with 6. Thinking of moving even shallower today. Anybody have any thoughts or advice?

Thanks!

22-23 feet inside corners or points in the break line and key in on the steep breaks where contours pinch together its like a funel for the fish there are hundreds of them on ida or move out to a hump...

Has anyone had any good luck on the south side of the lake? I have a cabin on the south west side, just north of old Camp Omaha and south of the bay. I don't see as many houses on the south side as the north by Gehrkes.

I totally agree, plenty of fish and plenty of space! I have only got up to the cabin twice this winter but I'll be coming up late February and early March for some fishing! Can't wait! Thanks for the info Hansen!

My dad had a cabin on Ida for over 30 years until he passed. It was in Christopherons Bay. We used to do well on the pannies, sunnies and crappies late in the year when you could sit on a bucket all day without the heater or the portie right on the weed line in 11-13ft of water. Caught some awfully nice fish there. During the wallie season a surprise eye once in awhile as well. I remember one day where the bass went crazy, couldn't keep em off the line. The season was closed so they all went back for another time. This bay was always good to me.

Getting up to the cabin this weekend and wondering abou the ice conditions. Will be heading out to the main lake with a 4-wheeler. Any slush? How deep is the snow? Thanks.

I'll be out there this weekend as well. I'd think that the ice has to be over 20" in most spots?

Any heaves out there?

Its been tough from what I heard. Its gotta warm up before the fish start snapping. Once the snow starts draining into the lakes is when the late stuff happens! The few fish that people are catching have been right before eveing. good luck find any green weeds and those sunnies and crappies will be there.

Has anyone been out lately on Ida? We're heading up this weekend, how are the water temps?

Also, has the water level gone up some since last fall? I'd assume with all the snow it had to of.

Pretty quiet in this thread...

Hallsie how has the bite been?

Marbleye - I haven't seen you post in quite a while...

I've only been out once on Ida this open water season, but plan to put a lot of hours in over the extended weekend coming up.

Bite has been ok. One or two at a time. Hard to find large schools so you have top hop around.

Caught some big ones as well as some nice eaters. My best luck has been 25' or so on jigs and minnows and now jigs and leeches.

Your right it's been awhile since I've been on. My computer has been down for awhile:(

The fishing has been pretty good. Lots of small fish 15" and smaller. Probably 25-30 the last few days. We also managed some keepers 16-18". But they were harder to find. There were also couple of bigger fish 27 & a 28". Leeches seem to be the ticket. More boats out then I've seen in a long time. I also had to keep moving it seemed. Right before dark was probably the best.

Hope everyone had a safe a Happy Forth.

Any Ida reports? I'm headed up this weekend and would love to get into a few eyes! Planning on pulling lindy's with a leech unless I hear different. Mid lake humps still the best bet this time of year? Any points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm having better luck with a jig and minnow. OK with crawlers/spinners. Toward nightfall, 25-32 feet were best.

Father in -law got into some last weekend with that exact method Studer. Also, hooked into what he thought was a monster eye' only to wind up being a 20lb Catfish. Didn't even know they were in there??? He e-mailed the Fisheries dept. and they didn't have any record of any either. Who knows???

I guess it was. Took him quite some time to get it in on a traditional live bait set-up.

Quick update: Lucky 7 now has rainbows, fatheads, crappie and light pike in stock. If I remember correctly, scoop of rainbows was $8.99.  Stopped at L&M in Virginia. Rainbows $6.99, fatheads and crappie minnows (scoop) $3.99. I was billed $6.99 dozen for rainbows, but was given a healthy scoop!

I have had the same old Strikemaster augers for years, take care of them and they will last a long time.   I think E-augers are nice for around home lakes or at the cabin. The thing that was a eye opener to me was being in D-Rock in New Brighton getting new blades and there were two guys that just got back from a week in Canada on a big ice fishing trip and both very pissed off at their e-augers dying! They were both buying new gas augers.

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.

Totally disagree Gim. I have a gas Jiffy legend auger. Never issues. Take a little time to care for it before putting it away and good to go. Sincei started using non oxygen gas, startron and seafood in never have issues with my 2 strokes.   seafood???   I'd try seafoam!!!   🤣

Wow, 600 bucks for a battery powered lawn mower?  Guess I didn't realize they costed that much.   I assume most people now are using battery augers in the winter.  I remember when they first came out everyone thought they were a joke.  Things sure have changed on that front.  I hardly see anyone using a gas auger anymore.   The selling point, at least for me, would be to avoid having to do any engine maintenance.  Small 2 stroke motors are a pain in the rear to maintain, and unreliable at best.
    • Mike89
I'll bet she's better at it!!!!

That thing should blow better then Stormy Daniels!  🤣🤣
