Boy, if I'm ever going to get my band total up I gotta move up to Bemidji where all the state waterfowl biologists do their banding. Nice work quackaddict.

1 band out of 96?

Well that's not so bad like some people get it. We've started to shoot bands this year and one last year where me and the guys have been hunting for the last 5 years! Before that we had 0 for I don't know 250-300 geese.

Good job, keep grindin' em!

Yeah I usually don't get too excited about jewelry, just this year because a group of guys I know got 5 bands and a neck collar in 1 hunt outta the same general area I've been hunting all early season. I couldn't believe it til I saw the picture.

Quack way to stack them up!!! You must know Cory???? Lots of DRC?? He used to hunt with us up around Warroad.... We have managed to stack up 227 so far this year with 3 bands kinda low band count considering the area. To all of you guys who wonder what we do with hundreds of geese. I personally smoke 75% of mine, best way to use them up. I usually give away most of them to the farmers along with walleye, and eat the rest. Once its processed "SMOKED, CANED, JERKEY...." no longer part of your possesion limit.

I hope you are not over your posession limit grin I'll have to try the smoked goose, never tried that. But boy, you guys have shot a ton of geese lol, keep whackin' and stackin'!

Yea I know Cory and he did hunt around Warroad quite a bit in the past years.

Yea quack Cory hunted with us 65% of the time when he was up here. You might remember the War Wagon pics of us with the Polaris ranger with mat tracks!! It was a sweet rig. We failed to get our limit for the first time this year today. We had a freshly swated barley field this morning Yea Barley.. really late up here with some of the crops. managed 13 for 2 guys and 2 kids shooting 410's we would let the geese land so they could ground pound them. lol not very sporting but at 7 and 9 years old who cares. We got our 10 but the little ones struggled lots of shooting and lol!!!!

If any of you guys in the metro have a couple birds left over after a good day and don't wanna clean 'em, I wouldn't mind taking a few off your hands. Email me at jeff _ lynch 55 at yahoo dot com.

Another comment on the goose numbers. You would be surprised how easy it is to get rid of alot of goose meat. Between family and friends it goes fast. Smoked goose sticks with cheese is the BEST hands down, delicious! The ultimate ice fishing, and hunting snack.

Walleyeswest- I remember that rig! Way to get the youths out today...some of us and Cory will be taking out a few youths tomorrow morning in a public plowed wheat field that is holding good #'s of ducks.

I was out this morning with one other and shot 10 plus a band as well. Pics to come later in week!

Saturday morning some of us took youths out for duck hunting, hunted geese in the evening shot 5 more.

This morning shot 25 more for 4 guys, 1 gal and 2 bands. No pictures, I was having some difficulties with my camera so I'll try to get some pics from the guys I hunted with today. Looking forward to Waterfowl Opener- the Ducks are thick!

I don't have any pictures to share but we ended the season with 10 more birds this past weekend. Total for the early goose season for our group is 41 birds.

Headed to Saskatchewan Friday morning. I am trying to get the knots out of my stomach. We are going to a new area and I am nervous to say the least. Just talked with the hotel we are staying at and they are seeinf lots of birds.

I'll post again when I return.

Zeek- no we don't do guided hunts but we could if we really wanted to. I don't like the idea of Leasing fields if need to, its more to be out with friends and enjoy this time of the month!

Snow- Saskatchewan will be a blast! I've always wanted to go there! Freelancing or guides? Good luck and post pics when you get back!

Oh for the kids "Team DRC" put down 25 more and 2 bands yesterday morning (its what its all bout fellas!) wink It will be aired on Focus Outdoors later in June.

Hey Quack

We freelance in Canada. I don't see any reason to have a guide up there. Permission is much easier to get in Canada. Most farmers want the birds off of their fields and I am more than willing to help them out.

just curious, some have guides some don't. I have never had problem getting permission here in MN...guess it's just where I hunt.

Here are some pictures from last Sunday.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
