For whom does the bell toll??? The Kitties, the Chi-sox, or the Twins??? I'm thinking ala 2004 and the Kitties will crumble under the race. Next to fall???? laugh

Cubs are crumbling, not as badly as the BoSox yet, but not good - still got hope though.

Dan Fogelberg:

"and I feel myself starting to crumble-your conscientious awakes and you see your mistakes and you wish someone would buy your confessions-the days miss their mark and the night gets so dark-some kinda message comes through to you, some kinda message shoots through"

"And it says to you-love whem you can but cry when you have to-Be who you must that's a Part of the Plan-await your arrival with simple survival-someday we'll all understand, someday we'll all understand"

Geno,

Do you want me to hang onto one of those forks I am sending up to Twinkie Town for you? No problema if you want one, the shipping will be less than having to send it all the way to Twinkie Town. They have about a dozen of their fans who have already jumped off the bandwagon, are you off the Cubbie Caravan or are you just out on the ledge? Three games with the double A Bucs should get you down off the ledge! LOL

The sox need to start penny pinching after blowing all that money on a couple of grunts!

Leech,

Please compare the stats of our two "grunts", Mr. Peavy and Mr. Rios to any two of the Twins recent acquisitions. Wasn't my money they were spending so why should I care if we don't pinch pennies. Again, I guess you have to take pride in something so you are proud of the fact that the Twinks are cheapskates and that they do marginally well. Run with that if you must but I got to say I like our chances better now with Rios and Peavy wearing the Black and Silver than I did before.

Seems to me we got the better end of both those deals, younger players with more awards and accomplishments, but you did get older cheaper players. I will put my "grunts" up against your "blue plate specials" any day and twice on Sunday! Like I said, it ain't my money they are spending!

Hey Geno,

I hear St. Marys of the Blind has just started a baseball team, do you think the Cubbies could work them into their schedule the rest of the year, or maybe the Lansing Lug Nuts could put the Cubbies on for a three game stint. Come out come out wherever you are! Oh Cubbies, come out and Play-ay. Got to beat more than the double A Buccos to convince me Geno. I will keep one of those forks on hand for you once the Cubs decide to play a major league team! LOL

Peavys on the DL, that deal still doesn't make much sense to me. Like buying a Ferrari without an engine in it.

You can look at it, and you've spent alot of money on it, but it isn't going anywhere for awhile

Zamboni,

Haven't you ever restored a fine vintage automobile? Remember the Ferrari in Ferris Buehler's day off? I would have taken that car after Cameron's dad restored it. Just think about Kenny Williams buffing up Peavy with a diaper till he shines! LOL

Two more rehab sessions in the minors and I look for him to be in the starting rotation by Sept 1st. Just in time for the playoff push, by then Alex Rios should have his stroke back and look out for the Pale Hose!

As for Peavy getting rocked in the AL, only time will tell. Bye the bye, where did Carl Pavano spend his first 8 years of his 13 year career? He seemed to adjust just fine.

Won't matter much for us Twins fans Windy...by the time Peavy is relevant, the Twins will be 10+ games out of it.

Thanks Windy, but I got a fork. It would be appreciated if you could send up one of those handy tools for picking up doggy doo-doo to properly dispose of our starting pitchers before the smell gets any worse.

We still have plenty of season left, so just keep those forks in chicago for September. You most likely will need them for the Bears season too, so don't go getting to generous with those forks just yet smile

On December 12, 2007, Peavy signed a 4 year extension, worth $52 million with the Padres. At the time the contract was the largest in Padres history. The contract includes a $22 million option for 2013. Peavy was 6-6 with 3.96 ERA before his injury.... not too stellar.

Alex Rios has agreed to a six-year contract extension with the Blue Jays through 2014 for $64 million. It also has an option for 2015 that would make the deal $77.5 million. The 28-year-old signed a seven-year contract with the Blue Jays in April 2008 that guarantees him $69,835,000. He is due $5.9 million in 2009, $9.7 million in 2010, $12 million each in 2011 and 2012 and $12.5 million apiece in 2013 and 2014...Pretty hefty for a career .280 hitter.

SPEND ON FOR MEDIOCRITY CHICAGO!!! Why not do it on a budget like the Twins!!

Fishy,

Nice to see a realist among the Twinkie eaters! LOL

Leech,

If what the Twinks did worked then I could see it but the only thing I see is a very sound fundamental team that is almost always in the race but never gets over the final hump. We did it in 05 so we have that to look back on and with the spending issue why do you think the Yankees and Red Sox are the most watched teams. Big players, big money. Again, if it were my money Kenny Williams was spending then I would have to think about it but I can't see why you take pride in watching Carl Pohlad rake in millions and put out crumbs for you Twink fans. There is no pride in a budget minded team, does not work for the Pirates, should not work for the Twinks but you seem to enjoy that. With all your poor pitching this year, what place do you think you would be in if you had YO Han back? My guess would be first, dude!

As for the Bears, we have all the Cutler-y we need! LOL

Good points Windy, but I still can't believe how mediocre the White Sox are with that kind of payroll. It shouldn't be anything to be "proud" of.

With our payroll, we still are in contention every year, like you said. But we can't expect to do it every year, it only comes together every 10 years or so it seems. That's the reality of being a "small market" team.

You are right Sled, we should gain a pretty good idea of how a star starting quarterback is going to perform in 16 real season games and the playoffs from a few meaningless quarters in the first preseason game of the year. You are right! Do you think that they might give us Kyle Orton back if we ship Cuttler back? And Sled, what ratio of minutes in the playoffs did the Sox have vs the Twinks last year. Where did the Twinks play in their first round of the playoffs, Hazeltine, Torrey Pines????

Sled, your wisdom baffles me sometimes!

Leech,

I am not proud of the Sox overspending, I just don't care that they do since it is not my money. It does baffle me how Twins fans continue to support Pohlad in his cheapness and seem to take pride in it when a few extra dollars spent here and there could obviously put them over the top in a very competitive division that is very win able by the team looking for that right move. Tigers seem to step up and it is obvious the Sox step up but it seems the Twinks just won't pull that last trigger sometimes. I know they are a small market team but with the revenue sharing and the tv deals they are pretty close to most other teams when the paydays come, they just go cheap on getting the pieces of the puzzle needed to put them over the top.

Windy is a windbag of knowledge!! smile He's in denial he's got a mediocre team with a bloated payroll. I'd like to see the #'s that say we have the same revenue as the Sox. That's ridiculous.

Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.
    • SkunkedAgain
Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.
    • PSU
Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?
    • Jetsky
Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!
    • SkunkedAgain
I hope to see it and believe it next week! Nice looking crappie
