Monticello/Otsego Smalliie Fishing Reports

I think that may have been the guys that are renting my house, I gave em a few tips. Think it goes with living in my house. crazy

My old neigbor and did some stuff in the high water that you wouldn't believe. crazycrazycrazy

I was out on Sat and it's higher then I've ever seen it. There are islands where normally it's dry in high water. Think of high water then add 3 more feet. Fishing was slow to. Just to much current and water up in peoples yards.

There's no place to wade right now as you can't see more than 8" and the current is fast, but if you must attach a rope to a tree or sumptin.

Someone could take a boat from Anoka to St. Cloud with no issues - heck I saw a 20 foot fiberglass I\O running around on full plane.

The river has dropped approx. 12" in the last week. As of Sunday evening none of the docks were out at either Montisippi or Ellison.

Was out this morning. Fishing was so so. Water is still high and flowing pretty fast. My best fishing was had in the fast shallower water. Along with a handful of smallies, I did manage one walleye that i fooled off a sand bar.

Going to be higher and faster. 2-3" of rain this week should put da rivers near flood stage ^sigh^ again.

Growing Flood Potential The NWS has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of western and central Minnesota - they just expanded it to include the Twin Cities metro. Latest model guidance is hinting at over 2" of rain tomorrow, with a potential for some 3-4" amounts. I do expect some street/urban flooding tomorrow, with a slight risk of a few isolated tornadoes over far southern Minnesota (probably not in or near the metro area). The threat is greatest to our south, from Mankato and Albert Lea to Rochester and Winona. Showers linger into Thursday, a clearing trend on tap for the end of the week

This is from the goof on the roof.

How has the water level been as of late? Any hopes of it coming down soon?

Out from shore this morning in Otsego for about an hour before storm rolled in. Lots of bites on nightcrawlers (don't forget the magic red/orange bead) with good variety of fish - smallmouth, walleye, a nice catfish (very skinny though), and even a sunfish (first ever on this section of river). Wanted to warn fisherman about overplaying smallmouth when the water is this warm. I caught a nice 17"+ smallie on a senko and think I likely killed it by fighting too long on lighter tackle. I know it is fun to use light tackle for the extended fight and all of the beautiful jumps, but I am going to use heavier tackle and a tighter drag going forward. Pity to see such a good fish likely not make it.

Hey guys, what's the river like now? Still high and fast?

I was thinking about doing a little wading tomorrow afternoon for awhile and wanted to know if it'd be worth the drive.. Thanks!

Hope to get on da river this weekend. T-motor was just fixed so I need to put that back on and fish, and test out the t-motor.

How much lower would you think the river is now than around bass opener (haven't fished the river since around bass opener and was thinking of making it out there soon)?

Hey guys, haven't fished the river since spring. It looks like I'm going to be trapped shorefishing with the water height. I'm thinking of the montisippi park, has anyone had luck in that area? Thanks for the help

Got the boat out yesterday for a few hours with my wife and kids - mostly using nightcrawlers on lindy rigs. Trend continues catching far more walleyes than smallmouth. Water temps were 78. Water levels are still extremely high for this time of year.

I'm sorry to hear that. Dern walleyes...

Cat action has slowed down quite a bit for me... the bites are not starting till dark. I usually don't stay to late enough to see if further action picks up. Just doing shore fishing for cats.

Took the boat out today from noon to 2:30. 5 walleyes, 4 suckers, a 5 lb cat, and a little smallmouth. Most walleyes were 12" or so with biggest at 17". Lindy rig with nightcrawler. Missed a lot of bites. Water temps dropped 3 degrees from Sunday - down to 74/75.

Only boats on the water were Sheriff Dept. Glad to see they have such nice boats.

Maybe we should oufit the Sherrif's department with shoddy used boats? When they respond to an emergency and someone's life is on the line it's kind of important to be able to rely on their equipment.

I get really tired of the politics in the fishing forums.
