We fished it last year a lot, but only open water. Had we put a permanent shack on a lake this year, that would have been the lake. Nice walleyes, LMBass, Crappies & Bgill, some perch thrown in too, but smaller ones. I don't know the lake well as far as hardwater, but if you want open watr info, I'll post it if requested.

I haven't ice fished on this lake for a while but the reports I have heard were sunnies, scattered, but nice size. Head toward the south end of the lake. I have fished muskies on this lake in the summer and usually do pretty good. In late spring, you can catch some pretty nice crappies also. The lake does get pretty busy, so you have to get out early. Haven't had much luck with the walleyes though, I would be interested to hear MnSportsmen's report on open water fishing @ Cedar.

Drew,
As far as open-water repor. It would be last summers info. I don't know if you've fished it much, but I have only touched the opportunities on this lake. I'll tell ya what we did last year & hopefully that'll help. Starting from the public access(Hwy 13) south shore out past the first bay there's some nice bass fishing to be had,( the water was real shallow coming out from the landing last year.had to lift the motor several times late in the year)I'd hit along the docks all the way down to the S.E. end for sure. From the rock piles(by Buoy) back toward the East shore by the point was hot for crappies. We got crappies there, but I know a few were getting wally's there too. Due South of those rocks on that East shore is another point. We hit the end of that(there's a cut-bank there),& did outstanding on the B-gills & sunnies , with some smaller perch. (or , at least my buddy did, with me watching... Virg, you lucky..... wink.gif ) There's some good N-pike fishing to be had on the West side, IMHO, & the I'd drift or, back troll the main lake for walleyes. The South bay looks very promising too(by the "daypark") & the little cove on the lower west side.As I said, I/we just touched this lakes fishing areas. This is just an "in-a-nutshell" type report. I will definitely be able to tell you more as Spring progresses. Hope it helped! Now it's time to "wet a line"!

I've got a pile of crawlers ready to go - a nice side benefit of all the rain in the metro lately.   At the very least, I hope that the remaining trappers are making some better money off of the higher prices. I would think that it would be a great way for local kids to make some cash. I can see why it wouldn't make for a great way to make a living as an adult.

Went out yesterday with the sunshine. I did find crappies in the shallows on a darker stained lake with Temps at 58 degrees. They had no interest in my baits

That's part of it.  Several recent years of drought have definitely played a role.   There's other factors too.  MN does not allow importation of live bait from other states either.  That really affects the amount of golden shiners available, most of which are not trapped here.  In other words, demand exceeds supply.   Lots of bait trappers and dealers have simply hung it up in recent years.  Its hard work for not much money.  The two nearest me are both done as of last October.  They both told me its just not worth it anymore.  One of them had been there for 45 years.   My advice would be to learn how to effectively fish with artificial lures more often.  I've slowly weened myself off the use of live bait nowadays.

Think the Free crawlers in the back yard are going to take a hit this summer! 🤭

Water Temps 48-52. I tried for crappies and caught two walleye. I can't even crappie fish. 1/32 ounce jig and a tiny minnow

Looks like you could use a FM hat. 😉    The future son in law prefers the lump coal.  He’ll start it in coal starter over a propane burner, then dump in it his smoker grill as needed.   Congrats on the clean break “over there”.

Should really start a What yeah Smoking thread!    Another fun place we tried when up in Duluth. OMC stands for "Oink, Moo, Cluck" They serve pork cracklins for starter to test their sauces on.
