I was on Mazaska yesterday for a few hours(late morning). No panfish for me, marked them but no bite.I was kinda shallow tho' 7-8 ft of water- west side. picked up a couple of N.pike on my tipup.Didn't move to deeper water, had a bad experience with a spearhole & decided not to travel more. Ice was 16+ inches & snow covered(4-5"). There were spots that had a little water between the snow & ice, but not too much. Trucks, including mine were traveling around. That's all I got for a report. I'll be going out to Frblt. again this weekend, I'll post more later.

My Dad has a house on Shields. He has the same problem, plenty of fish on the vex but few takers! I tell him to move around, which is what I do when I'm down there, but he has a comfortable warm house to sit in. Relaxation is one of the best results of fishing! Catching fish is a bonus. In any case, it's hard to get an accurate update from the lakes from Pops!

Good Luck!

I was also out on Mazaska wednesday after work. Between 9:00pm and 11:00pm I had some bites and some crappies, but were small ones and they went right back.
I used plain hook, it was ok, with a jig they were more reluctant.
I tried a Rapala jig, to the bottom but when I pulled it up it had some weed attached to it and...man did that stink !!! There has to be some huge decay going on on the bottom (28'), oxigen must be getting short under there. Ice was good, road were bad, I hope this cold will refreeze the slush.
I will try maybe Tetonka this weekend (follow Dennis suggestion, I always liked that lake) and report on monday.

Did pretty good on Sat., on Mazaska. Got some nice ones at first 4:45-5:15pm (One was a least 1-1/4 #). Then they were sporadic.Small on bottom (25-27 ft.) Bigger at 15-18 ft..
Went again this evening. schools abounded from 5 PM -7:15 , But were still sporadic. same as above for size/depth tho'.Missed a lot of fish due to light bites. My own fault tho' . Broke my lantern mantle & the batteries in my Flash/lamp got cold & went pretty dead. couldn't get the hang of the strike/give/hook set tonite. frown.gif oh well, this time "they" won the fight!
Enjoy !

Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!

      Great news, thank Skunked

Minnows are 50 cents each, and leeches are $50 a pound.

Absolutely. I get full bars all-along the drive from Cook to The Landing, and out into Head O Lakes bay. I can't say that I've stared much at my phone signal anywhere else besides on my way to Black Bay. We still don't get much for service there because there are a lot of steep slopes with tall trees in the way. That was expected though. The tower is definitely providing better service to the area in general IMO.

Any updates on this new tower? Has it helped AT and T customers throughout the lake get better service?

Thanks for the heads up. Cigar.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

I hope to see it and believe it next week! Nice looking crappie
