Recommended Posts

ok cool, thanks.. Ive fished tonka for 20+ years (since I was a kid) and I dont ever remember catching one there, I used to catch alot of them when we used to have a cabin in danbury,wi.. Havent seen one since!

The coloring was very nice on the one I caught, is that common? I dont know much about them, how big do they get? Anyone else run into them on tonka?

I catch quite a few over in Wayzata Bay and I think the state record rockbass could come out of Tonka!!

Unfortunately the state record rock bass will not come out of 'tonka because the record will come out of either gull lake or the whitefish chain when I go up there in september. Quality trophy rock bass fishing at it's finest! grin

Biggest I've caught is probably 3/4 pounds, but even the little ones will go after fairly big lures.

Dunno, If I had to guess I think Koronis has a shot at the rock bass record too.

I thought I was going to catch the state record Rocko on a small lake in Brainerd when it was 1-8. My buddy and I caught several over a pound, the biggest was 1-6 during the last season I was in Brainerd. I could not believe someone shattered it, a 2lb Rocko, thats insane. I love the "red eyed party fish", thats hilarious. My buddies and I call them "red eyed devils".

I fish the crow wing river a few times each year and always manage to catch big Rockies. My biggest so far was 1 lb 8 oz. I'll be guys have caught 2 lb Rockies and just threw em back or never reported it to the dnr.

JB Mast. I agree, I've always said the next st. record rock bass would be from the WFC. I've pulled some pretty beefy ones from it.

I'll third the Whitefish Chain! Those little b***** will go after anything. They seem to have particularly infected Bertha, I've almost given up bass fishing on that lake because they're freakin' everywhere.

Mississippi River in Brainerd, right up next to the generators at the dam. there are some absolutely chunky rockbass in there. they've all got the genetics(haha) and the forage base. only a matter of time.

Yup, seen plenty of "trophy" rockers up on

lower Whitefish. When I was a kid, we got one

seining minnows that was easily over the 2

pound state record. If you truely want to

target them, use a Gappen Ugly Bug. It imitates

a crawfish, which is the main food for them up

there.

Last summer on Shamineau there was a pocket of them right off the shore of my grandparent's land. I just stood in the water and cast a little way out, hook wouldn't be in the water more than 30 seconds and I would have one. Must have done that for about 1/2 hour to 45 min or so. It was great fun, for smaller fish they sure fight.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
