On 6lb test I caught the electrical feed cable to Taylor's Island on Lake Vermilion a few years back. It was in about 40ft of water and took a while to reel up. I was shocked (ha ha) that I was able to retrieve my lure.

I've got a few fishing poles and the regular garbage here and there as well.

three years a ago I was walleye fishing on kabetogama in about 30 ft of water and I caught a big wad of mint chewing gum. It was by far the strangest thing I have ever caught, when i pulled it up I had no Idea what it was until I broke it open and it was blue and smelled minty.

I caught a lobster off a pier in SoCal on a piece of squid with a circle hook, hooked it right in the mouth. I also caught an old nokia cell phone in a leather case in the Mississippi. I have caught a few condoms down there as well.

The misses caught a clam on cutbait, she must have dropped the bait straight into it.

I netted a loon for a guy on Harriet this Sunday. Fortunately it was hooked in the fat and skin on the breast and we got it released.

  • 4 weeks later...

I snagged a (wire basket/ live well?) while trolling in the Mississippi that had 4 live rock bass in it. I thought i had a monster northern or catfish on for sure. At least i got to set them all free.

snagged boat anchors, fishing pole(rotted and corroded beyond repair) fishing line with small northern attached, large leather back turtle, pants, and many clams/muscles.

Never know what you are going to catch in the Mississippi smile

Daiwa rod and reel (bass rig) that was in excellent condition. Caught it on Potato Lake 25 years ago and still have it.

My first one was a tomoto plant and rack in about 10 feet of water, guessing someone got mad and threw it off the end of their dock, the second was a seagull that thought a zara puppy looked yummy, my buddy got the pictures of me reeling it on his Iphone which are still on the wall today. Seagull was released safely and we all got a good laugh

A spinning reel, rod and crankbait while shore fishing for salmon in North Dakota.

A winter jig pole while summer fishing on Pickerel near Detroit Lakes.

A landing net this summer on Lida.

Twice I've hooked a walleye that ate the bait of the other guy in the boat. Once on Lida and once on Spirit Lake.

An antique fishing lure that was in a mess of weeds on Lida. Didn' see the lure right away. Bet a grandpa was ticked somewhere.

Quite a few years ago, I caught a big muskie off a dock in Maplewood State Park, fished three real estate signs out of the water on Lida and hooked a billfold with $480.00 in it all in one day in December. The guy's information was pretty beat up, but I was able to google what I could figure out and got a hold of him. He was from Oklahoma I had met him a few times fishing from shore and he had lost it in late September. The weeds had died down and the current brought it closer to shore. I sent it to him, minus the postage, and never heard from him again.

Stringer with three live eyes. Ice scooper, Brand new diawa rod and reel, anchor rope with anchor. But the strangest to me was once when I reeled up to check my bait I put it back down after seeing I still had a nice big leech on my hook. After trolling a little bit I had to bring it up for a double take since I realized the only bait I brought fishing was shiners. I must have lost my shiner and some how hooked a leach?

I caught a buzz once or twice while ice fishing, if i can remember right one or two of them were nice ones and i think i even threw them back! While on Millelacs a couple of years ago a friend of mine tried to take a picture of me catching one of those nice buzzes and dropped my camera down the hole. I caught the camera by it's strap the next morning while jigging. Later that day my brother caught a rod and reel of mine that must of went down the hole during the comotion of catching that nice buzz! I think this year i'm going to concentrate on fishing for walleys and perch. laugh By the way I'm new and this is my first post so hello to everyone

Yep, there's salmon in North Dakota. Lake Sakakawea and below the dam on the Missouri River. We always fished above the dam, sometimes from shore and sometimes downrigging in a boat. Size varies from year to year depending on water levels and smelt populations. Biggest we got were in the twelve pound range.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
