Couple of years ago we sained a bunch of shiners and mixed them in a salt water then froze them. when we used them then they would stay firm and stay on the hook for a while.

Since then we have did the same thing But I must be getting the salt wrong [table salt, rock salt, kosher salt, pickling salt] and the minnows always turn to mush right away.

Is there a secret out there that I am forgeting to do.

To much salt?

what kind of salt?

If I were you I would ask the question in the Lake of the Wood forum, they use frozen shinners all the time up there.

Drain all water off minnows and pat dry, then all picking salt and Borax, put in zip lock and freeze. Drying really helps keep from getting mushy.
