Rules for the Eye Tourny on the 2nd weekend

Recommended Posts

I saw an add for the Vermilion walleye tournament on the weekend of the 15 & 16th and it said that their was a 6 fish limit with two allowed over 26 inches. Is that a missprint? If not, how can the regs be different for a tournament than they are for any other fisherman out thier on the lake? Obviously I am not a tournament fisherman! laugh

It isn't for two person teams, is it? I would be really surprised if tournament rules could be more liberal than the normal regulations.

it's 6 fish for a 2 person team... you can only have 8 legal fish in the boat. choose your 6 best and weigh them...

That makes sense. I probably just wasn't paying attention to the TV and only heard what I wanted to. My wife says I have very good selective hearing! grin

You can't have more than the tournament limit in your boat at any given time I believe and yes that is for 2 ppl.

I just talked to Jamie Lindseth, the tournament director. It's the same as last year. You must follow state regs, meaning you can have 8 walleyes in the livewell. You weigh your best six, and 2 can be over 26 inches.

I just received confirmation from the DNR. Our permit has been amended to allow 100 boats.

If any anglers out there haven't mailed in their entries, I would encourage you to do so today. Anything mailed tomorrow won't reach us in time. We will be setting up at Fortune Bay all day Friday, and we won't have access to the mail. We will be accepting applications at the door Friday night until 6pm.

The 1st flight will be in at 2pm, 2nd at 2:30, 3rd at 3pm. Also, we just released 3 of our volunteer rooms to the public. If anyone is in need of a room, give Fortune Bay a call.

How is the tourney shaping up, how many teams? are the boats going to be marked, it would be kind of fun to follow some around and see how all the "pros" fish, what they use, where they fish, etc. I am going to out there that weekend weather permitting.

I can't speak for Jamie, but we got our registration back on Sat., and we're boat #47. They usually mark our boats with a ribbon, usually orange or yellow, and tie it on the front of the boat or on a side cleat so tourney boats are readily identifiable. Sounds like a few guys will wait till the end to register, but I think last year there was 66 boats or so.

Slovene, you are right on the nose. The only other change for this year is each angler will get a boat number for each side of the motor cowling. These will remove esily after the event. The idea is to make boats more identifiable. We are currently at 55 boats, but I have received several calls from folks that would like to sign up at the rules meeting/dinner. We will open up the registration around 4pm on Friday(tomorrow) at Fortune Bay.

Is there a website that shows the weights, number of fish, big fish etc?

There is, but I can't post the site here. Please give me a buzz and I will direct you to the site. I apologize for the inconvenience.
