Problems w/ my electronic system

First I will preface that I just got a new battery so the battery isn't the problem. When I turn my main power switch on the gas gauge goes up. If I try to engage(turn on) the areator or bilge it appears to short out and the gas gauge goes back down like I turned the main switch off. The aerator or bilge do not come on. The only thing that works are the interior lights and front and rear lights. Any idea what the problem would be? I have checked all the fuses on the main panel and they are fine. To me it must be a short some where. If have no idea where to start. Any idea's what the problem is?

It doesn't sound at all like a short, but, rather an open circuit. You have voltage until a load is applied to the circuit, then you are losing the current carrying ability of the circuit, and everything goes off. Time to start checking all the connections, first being the battery leads, all power and grounds, then right on down the line, move harnesses and wiring around while the switch is on and things are off and see if it will come on and off while moving wires, then narrow it down. Could be time consuming or you could get lucky and find it right away.

Good Luck

Capt Don,

It worked for now. All things up in running. What I'm afraid of is things getting jostled around in transit and on the water. Thanks for the help. I'll buy you a case of beer when I get up to Rydens this summer!
