Wow!!! Its like a dream come true, this is just what this team needs. I give props to the new owner for actually doing something.

Just checked out a blog on a popular metro newspaper, Lemaire was saying that he was surprised and that Leopold wanted to move in a different direction than he and Riseborough. Does that mean a high flying offensive team next year? I'm all for it as long as the win column doesn't take a nose dive. I didn't have anything against watching defensive hockey. I still loved watching it, but a change of pace might be nice.

They can take a chance with a more offensive apporach with Backstrom in the net, he will keep you in most games!

Who is out there? Coach? GM? Most that are out there have fail a # of times.

I believe you coach a system. You adjust your system to the talent that is given to you. Lamaire's system works and scores goal when the players buy into it. If they don't it doesn't work. Do you think Gabby will score more and be a plus player in a differant system?

What are your thoughts?

I've heard the coach from their farm team was in the sites of Wild Mgmnt to fill LeMaire's position.

FT - I agree. I think this is what happened a lot in the early years of the team. They played above the skill level of the players and had a little success because of it. I think a lot of the players lost faith in this system after a so many years of it and it stopped working as well. This is also what makes me nervous about doing a 180 on our style. I don't really want to watch a year of the players transitioning to a new style and the team stinking it up.

Sad to see them go ...

Glad to see a chance for "re-birth" ..

Had we stayed healthy this season.. we could still be watching games.. ie - playoffs would have happened. No doubt.

DO NOT forget that Backstrom has such great #'s because of the defense style of Lemaire.. not saying he isnt a phenomenal goalie.. because he is. But take a look at Rolston.. Fernandez.. they didnt look so great after the Wilds defense was not in front of them.

Lets get a new MNGR in.. he can hire a new coach.. and we can begin the next chapter.

TSN is reporting current Nashville's GM David Poile could come in and take over. He's done a great job with the Pred's and they have been shredding payroll every year. The Wild spend up to or close to the cap the last few years so with more room Poile could do some damage in a good way.

Yeah, Mn has got to be a managers dream. You get all the money you want and you don't have to worry about putting people in the seats.

Whatever happens, I just want a team that wins games. If we win them 4-3 now instead of 2-1, that's ok with me.

alot of changes coming in the Wild organization. I think it was time for a change being we cant get deep into the play offs. They have alot of work to do, and have to get it rolling for next year.

Are they going to sign gabby?

Well after reading the the owners comments in the paper today it sounds like he would rather have Gabby then anyone else. I can except that but with him going public with that what kind of power does that leave the new coach to motivate or didsapline players if gabby stays? Risebrough offered an 8 year 64m deal and Gabby turned it down.

It will be a new still but will it produce more wins? I doubt it.

How can it not produce more wins? Change is good sometimes people, Lemaire did an outstanding job getting this team going, the team started to level off the past few years, now its time for someone else to take it to the next level. Lets not jump overboard yet.

That's what the word was when DR was still the manager. Now, who knows. If Leopold wants to have a more offensive styled team, he may hire a manager who will put a more offensively styled coach in place.

I liked both moves. It will be nice to see fresh faces behind the bench and in the front office. I read the new GM will get to pick his coach and I for one hope he is more offense/attack oriented. I really got tired of watching the Wild dump and chase and then try to set up for a perfect shot instead of shooting the puck more. How many times did they get outshot during the season? I'll bet it was quite a lot. When you shoot more, you get more opportunities for rebound and screened goals. (Just my 2 cents)

Have heard through the grapevine that they're gonna take a run at getting Mikko's brother Saku here. They also toyed with the idea of luring Modano out of Dallas and having him play for a year or two before retiring, but that the Stars are gonna offer him a front office job after his contract's up next year.

Anyone listen to Sid sunday? First on Saturday Reusse was poking fun at Sid saying that Reusse thought the Pope died after reading Sid's column earlier in the week re: Risebrough's firing.. was funny. Then Sunday Sid opened his morning show defending Risebrough and bashing fans for being happy about the firing. Sid even called out Russo the hockey beat writer for his writing, so late in the show Russo calls in and Sid is all kissin Russo's a$$

Sid needs to go away or stick to something he knows about. The guy knows nothing about hockey and proves it every time he comments about it.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
