Lake Vermilion Campsites For Fishing Opener

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to come up to Vermilion for the fishing opener and would like to camp. There will be 3 or 4 guys. We will have a 14x16 wall tent with wood stove to keep us warm at night. Running water would be nice but not a necessity. Though a boat launch is necessary so we can get on the water and fish.

We would come up Friday afternoon and leave Sunday. Any suggestions? I would like to get our reservations made now to ensure we have a site. I did Google Vermilion camping but most seem to cater to RV's.

Hey fishingguy,

Probablly the best options for your group would be McKinley Park campground in Soudan, or Hoodoo Point in Tower.. they should be able to help you out and each has its own boat ramp. Close to some excellent spring walleye fishing as well!

You can camp at McKinley Park Campground in Soudan or the Hoodoo Point Campground in Tower. Both have running water and showers available.

If you wish to camp there call NOW, as they usually are full on the opener!

Other possible sites are:

Pike Bay Lodge

Fortune Bay Casino

Daisy Bay Resort

Glenmore Resort

Cliff

If you are looking at the west end we have stayed at Wake Em Up Bay campgrounds. The only things is there is no showers.

Does the picnic area by Pederson's landing have camping pads that would accomodate fishinguy?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I did call and make reservations at McKinley Park. I pretty much have my choice of sites as she said they don't get much campers until school is out and they never fill up opener weekend. Kind of surprised me but the solitude will make it an even better trip!

You won't have to go very far for your fish either. McKinley park is just outside the mouth of Pike bay. You can also often catch lots of Walleyes right off their docks in the spring time, especially in the evening and at night.

Sue and Jerry are very good people!! My family has been staying at Mckinley Park for 33 years and they have really cleaned up the place. Cant wait to be up there myself!!

Heading up to LV a week from today with the kids. Any advice for us? Staying on the West side but open to traveling if the weather permits.   The way the last few weeks have gone, might stay for good!!!

Do have Wi-Fi in your house. Your going to need that to work with any of the cameras that send a signal and video to your phone.  Hardwire is the best but battery power workers well for about two months then you have to pull them and recharge them.  It is nice to sit on a beach in Key West and keep an eye on your house when gone! 👌

With all the craziness in the world I’m looking at getting an outdoor security camera setup for my home. Anyone have ideas on what works well without a huge cost  and easy to do . Or is it better to go with a company to set it up.  We have recently had copper thefts in the area at farmers fields and bin sites and I know it will only gat worse as these things always do. I probably want something that hooks up to my phone as well and wondering if there is a good one with either battery life or if wired is better. Any thoughts are welcome.

Aren't they the ones that ran into problems about illegal bait? Anyone know how that turned out?

You launch on Moose Lake to get to the motorized portage. It's called Prairie portage. To get to the portage you put in at Moose Lake. From Moose you go into Newfound Lake. From Newfound you go into Sucker Lake. On Sucker is where Prairie portage is. There is a dock on the American side and on the Canadian side there is big sign welcoming you to Canada. Latourell's Resort runs the portage and the cost for the portage is $40 for a round trip.

Will that blond haired kid have that cool little orange boat in the show this weekend? Saw him driving around by Muskego Point a few times this summer.

Nope, there are parts of Basswood that allow motors.   Entry is from Fall Lake, and there is (I think) a motorized portage.   It is really popular in the spring...
