Abu Garcia 6500 C3 Assembly Diagram?

JimBuck

Question

I've been preparing for the season and while going through my reels I managed to disassemble my Abu for the first time and I can't get the gearing back together! Does anyone have assembly diagrams for this reel? Abu doesn't seem to have anything on there site. Thanks guys.

I send mine in every year to Abu and they check everything out for almost dirt. I have had issues with some clickers and Abu has yet to charge me anything other than the shipping back to me.

Lat spring I sent in a reel and it was 6 years old. They replaced it for free.

Their customer service is great from what I have seen.

You can also get the schematics and parts online, I know you can download the reel schematic from the site so that you can order the right parts.

It is a great site, for example I have an Abu Tournament Pro 6600 reel that I really love, it is a low profile style which fits my hand and is great for musky fishing, unfortunately the reel is not made anymore. I went to mikes site and was able to order a worm gear upgrade kit, it replaced the plastic bushings in the worm gear with ball bearings and upgraded the rest of plastic parts in the worm gear and line guide with metal parts. While I was at it I replaced some other plastic bushings in the reel housing with ball bearings and also put in better drag washers. The reel is amazingly smooth and can cast for miles now, the drag also peels off very smooth and even... The reel works better than when it was new, and it is probably a 10 year old reel.

I was so happy with the drag washers I replaced them in all of my Abu reels - the factory drag washers are junk..

I sent an e-mail to Abu and they responded saying to send the reel in. JWB475 you mentioned switching out the factory drag washers.....is there anything else that is worth upgrading while I'm getting it cleaned?

The Abu Garcia website will absolutely have the schematic you need, and you can view it online while you sit at the computer and reassemble your reel. Any parts info. you need will be clearly diagrammed and specified as well. If you want a general inspection and tuneup, you'll have to send it in--but they do a fine job. I've been doing all my repairs/upgrades via Abu's website for years. They are superb.

I found the schematics after some poking around. I ended up sending it in last week and should be receiving my upgraded abu shortly! We'll be testing her out on some kitties hopefully later this week. The turn around was very quick on repair/maint.

If you have a digital camera, taking a bunch of pictures as you take something apart can be quite helpful in getting it back together.
