We got most of our fish on preserved, dyed red emeralds. They seemed to outperform the chubs 3-1

So now I have heard that shiners are the way to go on the river. Any comments on what to get? How many alot I would guess? Do you have to drain the river water from your bait when you leave the river? I know they made me last year, is this a every year thing or do they make you only on bad years?

By the regs you are supposed to drain all river water from boats, bait, and boots if needed. Haven't heard of 1 person being asked or required this season. Could be an oversight or could be the absurdity of the reg. has finally sunk in.

IMHO, probably more waterfleas on an anchor rope than a bait bucket but I'm not a marine biologist so take that for what it's worth.

By the way, you will see a bucket of fresh well water in my truck on each and every trip because I will comply with the rules & regulations of the State of Minnesota no matter what my personal opinion may be.

Haven't used a shiner in the spring for years. Rainbows for me.
