Gas Grills?

Question

Are Weber gas grills worth the Money? Do they last that much longer than say an Aussie or other makes? Has anyone had one for several years without the usual burners rusting out? I'm looking for a decent grill for a decent price.

I got a Kenmore last summer and it has been a great grill. My dad has had a Weber since gas grills pretty much first came out. I am almost 34 and he has had it as long as I have been around. I had a Thermos brand I got at Target and it didn't last too long, but I do keep it outside and never had a cover for it, for the Kenmore I bought a nice cover and that should prolong its life a few years. BTW, I think my burner in the Kenmore is stainless.

I bought a Weber Q just to have as a mobile type grill for fishing trips or whatnot. I ended up buying a stand for it to use as my main home grill and has turned out to be the best grill I've owned.

The added bonus is that it's small enough to take out in the boat and or on the ice.

Everyone I know who has a Weber say its worth it. Biggest reply is they have much more control over the heat.

I personally don't know, my $100 Char Broil from Menards is still kicking after 4 years. (Would have to get 16 years out of a Weber to break even compared to the Char Broil)

A group of us bought an Aussie grill for a the father of one of our buddies who hosts us at his cabin for a long weekend of ice fishing each year. Almost all of the grill is stainless steel and it seems very well made. The heat controls and burners seem very good as well. I cooked steaks and fish on it the weekend we gave it to him and it worked great. Its the equal to the $700+ Ducane I have and it was only $250 plus tax from Menards. If my Ducane dies I would buy one for myself without hestitation.

The guys I know that have Weber's rave about them as well.

Last year I compared between a Weber and Kenmore. I chose the Kenmore because I could get more for the money. Im sure Weber is a great grill, but seems like you pay more for the name. The Kenmore has been perfect so far.

Gas? Man, I must be old school. I only use my charcoal weber! all year long. Can't beat the taste! However, I do own a Weber propane grill, for the once or 2 times a year it gets used, its good.

Yes, not only do they last longer but they cook more evenly than most of the cheaper grills.

I would also recomend getting the natural gas version and plumbing it into your house gas system. In the long run it's cheaper and a lot less hassel.

I have had a cheaper Aussie gas grill for 3 years. I have replaced the igniter, and now it is time for the burner. It is stored outside uncovered all year. My next grill will be something a little better (and I will take better care of it, also.)

Gas? Man, I must be old school. I only use my charcoal weber! all year long. Can't beat the taste! However, I do own a Weber propane grill, for the once or 2 times a year it gets used, its good.

I have been down the charcoal road. Get the coals going, throw on the steaks, go out to flip 'em and the coals are out. My gas on the other hand, hit the electronic ignite and no worries. Plus, to be quite honest, the taste difference is nominal at best

Once you own a weber grill you will never buy another brand. Our Genesis grill is now going on its 12 year and cooks and looks better than some friends grills that are only a couple years old. I have not replaced anything on it yet and it gets used every weekend from Opening fishing till Deer hunting. You can buy cheaper grills, and i have, but you will not get the quality.

I am going on my 7th summer with a Webber 3 burner gas grill. It has been great. Love the heat control and it has operated flawlessly. This year I am going to replace the "flavorizer" bars for the first time, otherwise everything else is rock solid. I use mine basically 3/4 of the year and love it. I think mine was around $300ish.

I'd say go with a charcoal grill.... Maybe it's just me, but nothin beats the taste and whats better then waiting for the coals to heat up with an ice cold beer in your hand out lounging in the sun...

I had always wanted a Weber and finally got one at an auction 2 years ago. I paid $7. I actually was not sure if I was even biding on the grill but though for $7 I will take a chance. It was either a grill or 5 bald tires. I lucked out.

Anyway, one thing to remember is that Weber has been around awhile and they have parts for all their grills. So not only do they last a long time, but when parts are needed you will be able to replace whats needed instead of replacing the whole grill.

I have the Aussie gas grill with 6 burners at home and has worked flawless the past 3 years. It heats up fast and cooks evenly. I do keep it in the garage when not in use though. That is probable the key because spiders and weather can shorten their life. I do use my charcoal grill on weekends for steaks but for lunch or during the week it's all gas.

I picked up a Char-Broil at Home Depot last spring. It has been a decent unit. Far less flare up issues than the previous grill. It works good for indirect grilling, and for burgers, brats, etc.

When we want a quick meal, it gets the nod.

For our good steaks or pork chops, I go for charcoal all the way.

Ducane all the way! I have a wheeled version with a quick disconect hose/ natural gas. I will never have to buy another again. My opinion is spen a bit more more money and buy quality

I have had a Char-Broil Quickset for seven+ years. We use it when we are in a hurry to cook a meal like on weekdays, etc. I have replaced the burner, grills and ignitor once. I keep it outside, but covered when not in use. Not real good heat control, but once I "learned" how to set the temp and where to place the food on the grill, it works fine. On weekends and special occasions, I have a Weber Charcoal grill. IMO, there is a difference in taste. I love charcoal. I also have a charcoal smoker.

If I ever purchase another gas grill it will probably be a Weber or an Aussie but I will always have a charcoal grill as well.

i have a Char-broil and had it for about 2 years now from Mills Fleet Farm.

It works good i like it but just the past few times i used it the ignition lighter stopped working! oh well thats ok i guess

Had my weber propane for 15 years now and it still looks great and works excellent. Have never replaced the stainless burners but have replaced the igniter several times and also the cooking grates. I wish it would die so I can buy a larger three burner weber! I dont think it eve will so I guess I may become a two weber family. It is stored covered on my deck and sees use all year around, several times a week at least

I have an Aussie that I picked up at Target. It has worked, but it is nothing to write home about. The thing is now starting to rust out on me pretty good, and I am going to replace it with a weber.

I would go with the weber, it will save you money in the long run.

I'm another Weber satisfied customer. Had mine about 8 years and use it 2 to 3 times a week even through the long cold winter.

I bought a Kenmore back in 2001. It sits outside in the elements year round with a cover on it. I've never had one problem with it, except for the inevitable ignition button failing. All of the burners still look great.

I would never dissuade anyone from buying a Weber. I think they are great grills. You probably do get better control over the heat. However, unless you are some fancy chef or "great" backyard bbq specialist, I doubt that you'll care too much about the difference.

All in all, you won't go wrong with anything but if you like having the best and money isn't a concern, then go for the Weber.

I wanted a weber but at the time could swing it, so i bought a brinkmann 3-burner. i also purchased a cover and keep it cleaned up really well. Have had it for 4 years now and havent replaced anything on it, and it still looks to be in really good shape.

I have had my Weber Silver B gas grill for 9 years and kept it covered. I have only replaced the grates last year. I really like it and would tell anyone to buy one too. There are lots of nice grills on the market but I have no complaints at all about my Weber. It has been worth every penny of the 450 I spent on it and would easily do it again. I do use mine a lot and I think what impresses me the most is that the igniter still lights every time!

I have had battles with gas grill since I have had a place of my own. My first one was a fairly expensive kenmore, lots of stainless steel, but the burners were cast iron. They lasted about 3 years, and had to be replaced, along with some other stuff that was ruined. All told I spend 100 bones to fix it up. During the replacement I notice that the whole inside was "rotted" out. all of the hardware was shot, all of the mounting holes were enlarged. After three more years I was not going to mess with it again.

Next came a high end char-broil TEC. I was really impressed with the infrared cooking surface, until both of the TEC burners' hardware rusted out after a year. I called Char-broil and they said that they had a problem with these burners and would send me new ones under warranty. Of course they were back ordered so I had to wait 3 months to get them. They also replaced the igniter which was bad.

This put a sour taste in my mouth about char-broil.

Now I grill year round, but I keep my grills covered and under the large cantilevered roof on my deck. They should last a long time.

As for my next grill, it will definitely be a weber, I have friends that have the lower end models and have had no problem with them for many years.

You can't beat charcoal I will never buy a gas it's a experiance everytime you grill.But for those with gas grill's the worst thing you can do is put a cover on them it just let's the moisture sit inside and eat up the burners leave them uncovered and in the garage or at least under the eve's of the house this way the air can blow through them and dry out the inside.

I have thought about leaving mine uncovered, but I am scared of leaving a 1000 dollar grill sitting out in the elements....

Just put it under the eves of the house or garage then so the rain dosen't get it.

      We just returned this afternoon from 6 days on Vermilion. We arrived Saturday and enjoyed 3 fantastic days of walleye fishing. My cousin, our friend Greg, and myself fished several of our spring spots and found fish on all of them. Water temperatures were pretty much 65-67 degrees everywhere we fished. The wind was variable and made boat control a challenge at times. Bait was not an issue and we had success on crawlers(Tim), leeches(Greg), and minnows(me). If I had to pick one of those as catching the most fish, it would be crawlers. Our best day totalled 48 walleyes, 4 smallmouth, and 2 big JUMBOS. We ended up with over a hundred walleyes, 12 jumbos 11"-13", and 10 smallmouth to 18". Our biggest walleye was 24.5" and the balance went from 13"-22". There are lots of 14"-16" walleyes this year which are perfect eaters. The mayfly hatch was in full bloom in some areas but we found very few mayflies in the water column over rock reefs. We caught our fish in depths ranging from 10' to 32'. I didn't fish in any area where I could see mayflies top to bottom in the water column. Slow trolling in the .3mph to .6mph worked and we caught nothing using slip bobbers. Terminal tackle was a 3'-4' 10# flurocarbon leader, 2 lime colored beads, and a plain #6 Gamakatsu walleye hook . Snags are always an issue when fishing in and around the rocks and when the fish are biting they are acceptable. NOW, for the bad news.......Tuesday was a day I won't soon forget. The area suffered devastating torrential rainfall. Lightning was non-stop for several hours and when things settled down, flood damage was everywhere. We checked our rain guage on the side of the cabin and we got 7 3/4 " in a little over 4 hours! Breezy Point road washed out, Mud Creek road washed out as did several others in the area. Cooke business area was completely covered with flood water. I would consider it a disaster area and should be declared as such. We couldn't find a dock anywhere that wasn't covered with water. People were stranded behind flood covered and washed out roads. Dock decking, limbs and such were floating everywhere in the big water. My group sends our prayers to the people of that beautiful country that lost their businesses, homes, and suffered damage to their lake properties. The people of that north country are resilient and we have confidence that they will recover. We stayed our final 3 days but didn't fish at all Tuesday. Our last 2 days showed the effects of the storm. Water temps dropped to 64 degrees and our premo fishing became 10 walleye days. We did manage to catch a dozen really nice jumbos. We plan on returning in September and we pray the area will have returned to normal by then. I haven't figured out how to transfer photos from my phone to my computer yet so no pictures at this time.       Heard that too. Also heard 38 was closed for a but north of rapids due to flooding.    I know the water really came up when I was up last week compared to when I was there in April.

      Someone said 4 inches in the past week, more expected this weekend. A few roads, including county roads that are asphalt ended up with sink holes. Lakes are the highest I've ever seen in the 30+ years coming to the area and now living here. Several people lost trees Tues night

      50 in 6 hours is great. Boat issues really put a damper on a great day though. Hope you get it fixed quickly.
