Shore Ice, does any one fish it?

I was just wondering if anyone does any fising from the shore ice? if so could ya kinda fill me in as to the when and where, not specifics. Just ideas to point me in the right direction as to when and where? I am thinkin about a trip the up around the 27 of mar. If I am an idiot you can tell me that too. eek

Some years you could effectively fish from shore ice.

Most years it would be way too dangerous to get near the edge without holding onto something you could jump into(boat). even with a life jacket you wouldn't be safe in that water. You could easily end up sucked under ice.

I would recommend finding someone you could split fees with and jump into thier boat.

Access might be tough as well. The river is primarily private along its banks. I know there is the whole high water mark argument but thats pretty thin(pun intended). I know you could catch fish from shore. The problem wouldn't be getting a jig in the water it would be landing fish without endagering yourself or dragging fish up on the shelf and then across ice to get to you. All that said I beleive you could find a spot on the river that would be fishable legal and safe for you and the fish. If you go bring waders, wading belt(you might find an area you could wade in. I wouldn't wear them in a situation you could slide in the river and get dragged under by them)ice cleats, life jacket. Good luck and be very careful in your dicision making process there just walleyes.
