I stopped at vado's today and they are out of rainbows until the opener eek I need them for my trip to grand marais this weekend. Are there any baitstores in the metro that sell them?

there is also Sportsman Warehouse by Pike Lake, a bait shop a mile or so off of 35 in Cloquet.

S&W is my favorite baitstore...unfortunately it's way too out of the way.

Does anyone know if mike's bait in forest lake sells rainbows?

Check Wayzata Bait. That's where I usually get them but I haven't been in there this winter. I would just start calling all the local shops.

I made some phone calls and nobody has anything! frown It was hard to accept, but I settled for large crappie minnows and some sucker minnows. Hopefully the lake trout won't be picky. At the very least I now know I have a handful of options for future reference.

Grand Marais has the WORST bait you'll find anywhere! I stopped buying minnows there years ago. Half of them are dead by the time you leave the store, the other half are dead when you get to the lake. Doesn't matter what kind you buy either, fatheads, shiners, or chubs. Doesn't matter where you buy them either, both gas stations and the hardware store have poor minnows. So just to let anyone who is going to grand marais to fish this year...BUY YOUR MINNOWS BEFORE YOU GET THERE!!!

Well thanks for all the suggestions guys. Now that my grand marais trip is over, I won't be needing any chubs or shiners until june. Will be small crappie minnows for me until then.
