It's been pretty much bumper to bumper out on Forest this year too. You're lucky to find a parking spot in the landings on lakes 2 and 3. It must be seeing some impact from the extra pressure.

I'm going to be in Forest Lake this weekend I looked at the muskie thread but i really dont have that kind of equipment, but I love to chase pike, even if there not huge, i just like the action. So if anyone can give me a few hints I would be very eppreciative. I'll try either way, but help would be awsome. thanks.

Rattletraps over weed flats in 6-10 feet of water. You should have no problem catching plenty o' Pike as there's a ton of them in there.

I catch alot of Muskies on pike rigs, and have no problem with that. Try spinner baits with tandem blades [ flor. orange ]

I agree with AnglerX and motley man that trolling spinner baits over the weeds in everything from 2 to 12 fow will get you on em. On bright days black has been working best for me but yellow has always worked too. Just move fast and cover a lot of water and you'll find hammer handles all over the place. Throwing a piece of gulp on the hook to turn them on doesn't hurt either.

The pre-lunch bite seems best in my experience.

Yep, what these guys said. Rattle raps work great in the #5 and 7. I like the shad , firetiger and gold in that order. Don't be surprised if you hook a walleye or two while tossing rattle raps midday.

There were many fish caught. First place had 3 legal fish (40, 42, 43) No one else had multiple legals caught. Second was a 49 1/2 which was the big fish. 13 to 14 legals caught which i thought was very good. Wish i would have been here to fish in it. I got this info from the muskie forum so if its wrong, sorry!

Has the fall walleye bite been picking up yet on any of the local lakes? I know it was around this time last year that things started to get somewhat consistent in the Chisago lakes area. Anyone seeing any increase in feeding or better schooling concentrations?

i just got home from fishing this morning on forest lake... i left the house at 7, was on the water by 830. we launched at the public launch on lake #1. it was pretty windy out there on lake #1 so we trolled around a little bit with minnows and worms on spinners with bottom bouncers.. trolled all around the opening into that little bay to i believe the south side of the lake. trolled around muskie point or whatever it was called in my gps... no fish.. not even any bites.. we decided to go on the calm point just inside lake two and do some more trolling, so we did that.. still no fish.. we trolled deep, shallow, zig zaged and S turns in and outta the break line, fished around structure that was shown on my lakemaps card.. no fish.. we tried a few different spots around lake 2 jigging live bait and still no fish in the boat.. we also threw some cranks of all different depths INTO all of different depths to no avail.. also threw some muskie stuff for a little while when i was frustrated...

anybody have hints on where to try to pick up walleyes in the forest lake chain? any one of the three lakes specifically? live baits? cranks? any help would be appreciated... there were a bunch of other boats out on the forest lake chain this morning, most looked to be throwing for skies. it was chilly with a brisk breeze and sometimes a list mist of rain, but the weather wasnt all that bad actually.. i dressed in several layers and was just fine.

Sounds like you put in your work JW. whistle

Granted I wasn't fishing for them but the only time I've caught eyes on Forest has been around some of those shallow weedy points and edges in Lake One. How shallow did you go?

I've seen them active this summer in as shallow as 5 fow during the day as long as there's good weed cover or wind blown stain. They tend to feed rather shallow in weedy ol' Forest. In years past I've caught them in as shallow as 2 fow during the hot summer days. I'm just waiting for them to concentrate on the dropoffs for the sunset feeding as the water cools.

I'm thinking about hitting Forest Lake on Sunday. I took a drive around the lake today and it looks like lots of folks fishing 1 and 2 and only 2 portys and no wheelers on 3. Any ice thickness reports would be appreciated. I usually get on at Timm's and shoot over to 2nd lake, but I'm thinking that may not be the smartest idea just yet. Probably trailer over to Willow Point landing instead.

Was out there Yesterday and Today and found varying ice thickness. I set up on around 9 inches of ice, but walked about 50 yards and found only 5 inches of ice. I didn't go any further in the direction of Timm's. I heard that area was open late this year. There are areas off of Willow Point that are slushy especially closer to shore. The channel areas with deeper water are thicker from what I've seen.

I noticed around 5:00 pm saturday evening, Forest Lake Fire and there rescue boat leaving the area between Lake #1 and 2. I drove by on Sunday but didnt see anything. Anybody know whats up?

I saw the same truck. I had tip ups out in the channel between lake 1 and 2. Found 8 to 11 inches of ice. Moved to Willow point and found anywhere from 5 to 11 inches and they were with-in 20 feet of each other. I don't think I'd drive my truck out there just yet.

BTW- 2 flags with nothing to show for it.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
