Went out today on a lake in the north metro in search of some big bluegills. I found a spot in 7-9 ft of water that was just full of nice green weeds. Had to use the low power mode on my FL20. I drilled one hole, dropped my flasher down, and immediatly caught an 8.5 inch gill, so I grabbed the auger and drilled maybe 20 holes. I used a blue marmooshka tipped with either Gulp! waxies or red and white maggots. My girlfried used my last lindy pounder in glow/green tipped with red and white maggots and a slip bobber. We had to hole hop a little after a few fish out of each hole but the bite was really consistant. We fished for about an hour and a half and came home with 16 gills between 8.5 and 9.25 and realeased another 10 or so. All in all it was a great day to be out.

Today i fished the same area. When I showed up there was about 15 people right on top of where I fished yesterday. They must have been watching from a distance yesterday. I fished with my Dad for about an hour and we caught 10 that were between 8.5 and 9.25 again. We caught around three times that many that were smaller as well. Today the blue marmooska tipped with red spikes was what worked, along with a power noodle rod, for the light biters. Another good day on the ice, just not as productive as yesterday.

Better yet they simply recognized the shore line in the picture, I wouldn't suggest doing that again..

I got out today and went to a spot I tried during the week with a bunch of perch for my efforts. I moved 3 more times with nothing of any size to show for my efforts until the last spot. I drilled along a weedline on an inside turn that was basically creating a pocket in 8ft of water. Thats where I found the bigger bluegills. Berkley gulp! waxies in natural and a pink and white fatboy was the ticket today. The fish werent agressive as I really needed to barely quiver my rod. Things should start to heat up in the next few weeks with the warmer temps on the way.

I went out today and fished for a little over an hour. I didnt mark alot of fish but the ones I did I caught. I used a kodiak jig tipped with red spikes and fished 5-7ft of water in the weeds. I caught about 10 thick bluegills and average size was between 8.5 and 9". These warmer temps we have coming up shuld put the fish into high gear.

I still cant get a dang 10" out of that lake. I have 2 buddies that have gotten 5 fish over 10". Those bigger fish are so picky though. You need everything perfect. When the water was clear a month ago i would site fish them and with the slightest bit of line twist they were just negative. I would think that they would all start to pour into the shallows soon.

I remember the picture you are talking about, but I think it was last year some time and I just don't think I could wad through all of Duff's politic fall out to find it!  😵   One of my buddies put up those adhesive backed thin cork-board squires on two of his cabin walls. Pretty fun idea of his family growing up at the cabin.  With fishing, hunting pictures mixed in.

Head-O-Lakes and Wakemup were pretty much ice free this past weekend.  Spring Bay has ice as it's really protected.  Some ice in Richie but the west wind on Monday pushed it all to the east end.

Sounds like cost/benefit analysis is underway...

I tried finding the pic @Duffman posted of the board he put together for his basement/bar I think it was but no dice.  Too much for me sift through.  It was pretty cool though and maybe in line with the OP’s idea.   @leech~~, got some time and mad search skills to dig that one up?

How is the ice build-up coming along? I can't wait until Head-O-Lakes and Wakemup freeze so that I can get to my place across the ice. I'm hoping for another low-slush year.

Jim Zupancich, who works out of the flagship store in Ely, said the Zup’s in Cook has been in business for more than 20 years. He added: “We do OK there. It’s a living. We’ll get back on our feet.”   Jim didn't give much of an endorsement but I understand the economics. One of the early articles had the store manager saying that they would rebuild. A later article quoted one of the Zupancich's saying that they would assess the possibility of rebuilding. I think that we all hope that they will rebuild, and hopefully they had good insurance to make it an easy choice.

As of mid July nothing was going on there. I drove in there, think I parked in the bar!

Picked up a new supply of pretreated cleaning patches and some Blackhorn loading tubes tonight at Shooting Sports.   I’m just dabbling with getting things ready but the more I do, the more motivated I get to go.  Too bad you’re so wrapped up in hockey this time of year that you can’t really get into it now!  Good to spend time with the kids but ignoring the call is tough.

Drove by there this morning.  Definitely a sad deal for owners, employees and people in the community.  I also feel for the deer hunters who lost the deer there being processed.  We are hopeful that they will rebuild.
