pike fishing on pelican...

Recommended Posts

taking 3 boys out pike fishing on sunday at pelican lake...any idea where to go that we could walk out to and set up some flags? if there were sunnies in the area it would be a huge bonus to keep the kids occupied while waiting between flags. is there a spot by a resort with a plowed road, or somewhere to park thats not a huge hike..the kids are 7, 13, 14 so a little exersise wont hurt them.

p.s. i am 100% catch and release on pike, i havent kept one in ten years...i prefer to eat panfish, but the boys like to catch the pike!

If you want to park at our place and hike out about 325-375 steps off shore, there is a channel there about 8-11 feet deep and a few higher spots around there that might work. I have caught a few perch and pike over the past few weeks with jig (chartruese/orange) and a minnow. Perch love the same. I was hoping the crappie might bite, but they are usually in the deeper water. I was hoping to wet a line tomorrow. We are on the southshore of the lake in the middle of the lake. We have parking, but no roads plowed. Easy walking on snowmobile trails.

I din't have any luck yesterday, but I hit a shallow spot and didn't have enuf tme to go to another spot. The ice was 32-36" thick. I had bites, but only small perch I think. Not a problem. Just call and let us know. 800-840-9653 (wolf)

Yeah I'm planning and scouting starting next week.  Any help is appreciated.   Also a reminder....   You will need a new fishing license as of 3/1/19.  The warden often comes by to say "hi"  and chat for a bit at our gathering.   I would hate to have someone forget.   Especially me. 😉

I got stuck on West Rush Wednesday.  Thanks to Nick?  P  from Rush City for helping me get out.  I couldn't budge.  Mike from Mike's towing was going to come out and rescue me but Nick saved me a bundle!  Thanks, Mike for being willing to come out on the ice.    Just wondering how travel is on Rush and Pokegama this weekend.  I will be hesitant go get out until the snow gets packed down on a bit.!!!

Might want to have him call a realtor but I think there is something open in that strip mall behind McDonald's. A friend retired and closed his jewelry store and that spot might work good. I think it's called Pokegama  Plaza. Next to Edward Jones and Sears.

Hey PRO V, you wouldn't happen to know of any office spaces for rent in rapids would you? My co worker is maybe thinking of moving our office up there if he can find a reasonable price and enough room for his cabinets.

I am going to put a get together on Blue Lake in March!! I am thinking the second weekend at the time. My question is would Saturday or Sunday be best for most of you? This will be out of the north access as I have work on finding a good spot with active fish yet. Please let me know and if you are interested in helping find a spot with active fish. Thanks
