Nice Sewer Bass JC. That spot sure did flood. Next weeks temps should get the water back down some.

Went a bit North of town in search of solid ice. Fishing was good, for small ones smirk oh well, that's how it goes sometimes. We did get enough decent ones for Tom to have a meal smilefull-26589-44458-20140411_110526.jpg

We did wear the ice out though. From nearly 19 inches in the morning to 12 inches in spots when we left. That trip was definitely beyond "late ice", call it "last ice" for sure.

Here's a bass over 20 inches taken on 2lb. To big for taking a selfy; Rick was on Sasquatch Island.

This large bay on this lake will all be open by Sunday, bring on the long rods.

full-44147-44475-p4110031.jpg

More garbage Rick and I removed.

Wish we would of dragged out better camera gear, we seen several Bald Eagle feeding on the ice at the other end of the bay and tons of other birds migrating.

Found a few sunfish on a local lake Sunday and saw some crappies swimming around as well but no bites from them. I didn't have any minnows thou. I am guessing with the weather finally warming the panfish should kick in pretty good here in the next little bit. I was using crawlers and gulp grubs both produced sunfish.

Nice to hear from you Griffond.I'm also looking forward to the pan fish.

Today started slow on the river with a few hooked. Then moved on to Sartell.Suckers were keeping me busy one after the other.Just hooks, worms and some weight is all I been carrying.Cut bait anyone?

Apparently that snow camo just draws in the fish, ya that's it. So if you go don't forget the snow camo. Looks like your afternoon was better than my morning JC.

Wife and I went out to Cold Springs to try for some catfish. We were fishing from the bank at the park in town. We were using night crawlers. I think we would have done better with some kind of stink bait/ liver. She ended up catching two. full-46926-44867-20140422_180545.jpg

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
    • gimruis
I agree on the choices.   I didn't mean to say that a battery auger was better or greener or whatever.  I could care less about that.   It just seems that "most" ice anglers have made a switch to a battery auger in recent years.  That's all I was saying.  I know about a dozen people who regularly ice fish and they all have battery augers now.  I bet if you conducted a survey of all ice anglers, the majority would answer that they use a battery powered auger.
