Sounds like a few lakes have opened up or are close to opening up.  Panfish in those dark bays should be going strong soon.  Can't wait to get out there soon to have some soft water fun!

Took the yak out for a couple hours here around town. Starting to see fish moving into the dark bottom feeding areas.  The later into the afternoon it got the better the bite was for bigger fish. They seemed to be coming into the bay at a steady pace once the sun began  to warm the water a bit.

I had best luck with a 1in  pink/white little hustler tube on a 1/64 white ball head. I varied my depth from 1-3ft under my float, finding myself working shallower as the day progressed.

4 days in the yak so far this week and the body is SORE! LOL  Hope to do 5. :)  Been a great week so far fishing shallow areas on 3 different lakes. 1 foot to 4 feet has been fun with small jigs and different plastics, mostly white. Emerald shiner worked great for crappies yesterday. 1 1/2 inch tube was hot monday and good tues and wednesday and didn't do a thing today. (100 fish on the same tube and its still on that rod, crazy! I carry 2 on the yak).    Smaller was hot today.  12 inch crappie biggest so far this week and a nice 10 inch gill today with a few more from 9 to 9.5.  Get out to the shallows if you can and have some fun!  Water temp was 50 degrees today when they turned on. Fun times @Rick G!!

well, 5 days in a row in the yak has been a hoot. Hit the spot today that we hit mid afternoon yesturday and lots of nice fish still there but not as many as yesterday. Today I used the same small red jig most of the time and white wishbones. Als a white impulse mayfly with the legs tore off. Both produced.  Tried an orange jig for a bit and it was quiet. couple more pics. Only 2 9 inchers this afternoon and one nice 12 inch crappie. Lots of 10 to 10.5 inch crappies and lots of 7.5 to 8.5 gills. Time of day was key just like yesterday.

I got out a bit later than I normally do for a night trip as we had an early mothers day dinner with all of family mom's.  Happy Mother's Day by the way.

We started fishing about 10:30 pm and were still getting hit at 2 am when we called it a night. Found scattered walleyes up shallow willing to hit crankbaits trolled slow.  Water temps were in the low 50 degree range.  Nothing huge but nice eaters.

Pretty quiet in here.  I've been fishing out of town the past 2 weeks.  Hope to fish the area lakes this week.  Heard reports of a good day crank bite on the chain but not much else.  With the full moon coming up this week may try some evening trolling.  Anyone else having any luck?

Been out of town for most of my fishing as well.  Looking forward to being in the boat around home in the coming weeks.  It’s just never for the amount of hours I get on board for the out of town trips.  More like 2-4, maybe 6 hours at best here.  Never the marathon 12-15 hour days I’ve been blessed to have a few times this season so far.

I did just walk down to the river to make a few casts for my evening fix and picked up a 17.5 smallie on a Pop R.  That’ll have to do for today. ?

@Tom Sawyer

Its not supposed to be that way.  Is it??  It stinks when everything else gets in the way of spending some time on the water. ?

Making up for it this week, in a BIG way while on vacation. Perfect weather for chasin' down eyes. See ya' Saturday. Bring plenty of size 7 and 9 in blue crome. Lots of gators feeding on the same forage, win a few, loose a few.....

Friend and I hit the chain this morning pulling cranks shallow.  Slow fishing with a few nice walleyes, pike and lots of catfish.  Fish we found were on shallow flats.  Also a few panfish caught on cranks and several schools seen in the shallows.

My dad, eyeguy and I hit a local lake last night and pulled some lures for the full moon.  Dad wasn't able to head out until my nephews baseball game was finished.  We got a late start but that was fine.  It was a beautiful night with a stiff ESE wind and very mild temps.  The moon was bright with some low wispy clouds blowing by us.  I've been out of town the past few weeks so things had changed a lot since I last fished this lake.  Water temps have warmed ro 76 degrees,  the water has cleared and man have the weeds grown up.  This made for some difficult trolling conditions as lures continuously fouled with weeds.  We did fine a few spots that were clear enough to troll some shallow cranks over the top of the weed growth.  The first spot had some small eyes and a lonely smallmouth bass.  We didn't find the second spot until we were about to head home.  Eyeguy popped a nice eater almost right away.  We caught several walleyes and rock bass the next 2 hours and ended up going home with a couple meals worth of nice walleyes.  When we were packing away gear at home the skies were getting brighter and the birds were starting to sing.   It was a fun night even though it took us a while to get on the walleyes.

Well I made a solo trip for some evening trolling on Tuesday night.  Same program as before.  Water temps a little cooler and water levels up from all the rain we've received the last week.  Had a hard time with fish staying hooked once they hit.  Lost fish from right after the hit to right at the boat.  Some nights are like that.  Ended up keeping 3 for a fresh meal of walleye after fishing a couple hours.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280
    • Wanderer
20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
    • Wanderer
Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.
