I think the walleye/northern bite is starting to slow down. After having multiple fish (perch included) swim up nose my bait and swim away, I think I will be swtiching to crappies and sunnies here soon

Went to little detroit yesterday for 3 hours in the evening. Had lots of little pannies nibbling on the line with only one little gill hooked. Then about an hour before sundown some larger ones rolled in. I landed a few 7-8" gills for the pan. I moved alittle more to the west of the crowd than last time, and fished just above the weeds, in 11 feet of water. No pike for the day.

Took the boy out on an area lake last night and moved around a little bit until we found some active fish. We ended up catching a dozen crappies, and lost a few more.

Picked up a 15" and a 20" on S. Lida tonight but slow otherwise. Pulled the house till after storm.

Posted

Caught 10 crappies and a walter last night on South Twin. Nothing huge but some good eaters and good times!!!!!

The bite has been so-so all over. Hopefully it changes, going to do some tip up fishing this afternoon!!!

Moved the hard house yesterday and fished until 8pm in the January rain Storm confused Ended up catching about 17 slabs. Marked close to a dozen more that wouldn't go, so it was a pretty productive night. Moved out to deeper water (28'), started catching them at 4:30 with the best bite coming between 6:45-7:45pm. Was gonna head out tonight and camp out with the kids but the roads were bad and it's supposed to get cold tomorrow morning so I didn't want to risk it. May get out tomorrow night and do a sleep over with the kids.

Spent last night in the house with the family, even the wife!!!! Watched the game, ate chili, and pounded on crappies. Only sore spot was the Vikings giving away the game and getting stuck in the house until 3:30 pm when a buddy with a V plow came and saved us. I lost count but we caught at least 35 crappies and a nice 16.75" walleye. Kept a few for a meal along with the eye and was pleasantly surprised with the hot bite right before the monsoon hit us. Red glow with waxies or minnow heads were the ticket, the fish were more aggressive on the spoon than the waxie's but didn't alway want to hit it. If they didn't hit the spoon I'd drop down the waxie and they would hit it most of the time.

Fisherdog are those fish suspended? What time of day or night? I havent been able to get out yet and dont know when I will be able to. I want to get the big house out somewhere.

Posted

They are suspended anywhere from 2-10 feet off the bottom. Bak2MN shoot me an email.

Posted

bak2 did you give up on Red Lake?

Posted

No, just dont have alot of vac time left and it costs quite a bit when you pull your house up and I was paying for everything for my buddys trips. I was up three weekends in a row first weeks in Jan. I will be doing a LOW Red combo trip in March. I now want to concentrate on some time around home with the kids and crappies or whatever bites.

anyone been out after the storm anywhere? looking to get my house out again.

If you have a portable thats what I would be using......unless you have a plow on your truck. Lot of slush under that snow

I put the big house on Lida last night and just my luck I got the last hole drilled and my auger broke! Got set up around 5:00 and fished until about 8:30. Only caught one little perch. There was a few lookers and a couple little taps but that was it. Set up in about 27 t 28 foot of water. Dont know when I will get back as I need to get my auger fixed, its only a spring on the clutch drive so not a real bid deal as long as I can get the spring. Find out tomarrow.

Posted

Good luck w/ the auger! Hopefully you'll be back drillin' soon...

Posted

Yeah well if I dont get it fixed I have a house on the lake that I cant use and that will suck.

Sat out in the fish house on South Twin last night and picked off a crappie here and there and ended up with 6 good ones and 5 throw backs!

Also one walleye in the mix. The crappies went in spurts. The best time was about 7:30 or so.

Went fishing yesterday.Caught 13 nice crappies.Kept 10 that were 8-10 inches.Going back again today before the -20 shows up after this front goes through.Pulled out 2 guys who were stuck close to where I was fishing.

Posted

Got out today and caught the biggest blue gill I have ever seen. It measured 9.5 inches. Caught around 20 others. Glow pink jig with waxies. In around 20 ft of water.

My brother went out there Saturday and didn't get a bite!

Just wondering about Franklin Lake?? Don't see many reports on it. Was there this spring/summer and did really well and was thinking about heading up there this month to find the some nice gils. Any info would be helpful or send email to [email protected] Thanks

The crappies are heating up fellas, I went out last night a few miles down the road from my house and caught 17 crappies!!!! It's going to be a great week weather wise! Time to get out and explore some lakes that haven't been touched this winter!! I love March!

Posted

Sounds like a trip up north is in order just got back from FL so I'm itching to do some ice fishing.

Posted

I'll be out Saturday night Pete, it's more of a at dark-after dark bite but it was going strong. No super slabs, but there are some 12"ers out there.

In the next month or so some of those little lakes will be easier to access and it's going to be on like Donkey kong.

My 30 year-old Indy 500 (over 8,000 miles) has been having a mid-range bog for many years now.  It is worse on warm days and when the engine is warmer.  The sled runs fine up to about 1/4 throttle, then runs extremely rich up to 3/4 throttle.  The spark plugs are dark brown (better brown than down?) but not saturated.  8 years ago I moved the clips on the jet needles from the 3rd to the 2nd groove to lean the mixture and it helped for a while.   Should I move the clips to the top groove (temporary solution)? Could the jet needles, needle jets, and/or the main jets be warn and need replacement?   Don't think I will have time to tear the carbs apart this season for a rebuild so I may just band-aid the problem.

I think that Mike89 picked April 26 two hours before you, jparrucci.  Is that correct Mike89?

My last hide I gave to my Taxidermist friend to make what ever he liked out of it.   I've got a few fun Bear hunt stories to be told.  All 3 of us our first year stupidly tracking a blood trail in the dark together and getting lost, luckily smelled the bait making circles and got out. 🫣 Flash lights dying, deep in a swamp following a blood trail in the dark, the one who stayed at the bait called us back in!  We learned our second bear! Lol. 😞  Downing a wounded charging bear with the last bullet when tracking, no lie! 😬    Have had my fun!  🥳

I remember that kegel… stuff….!   just finished my post work latte as a matter of fact!  Only the second case of those I’ve ever bought.     I’d get Mike something better.

I still have hope. Put me down for my dad's birthday in April 26. Come on warm weather.

application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

aw that date is fine and maybe someday we will have beer!!!

Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
