Not sure where else to put this since the muskie portions of this forum seem pretty dead.  I caught my first muskie of the season yesterday morning.  It was my 18th hour and 5th trip muskie fishing this season.  All I've been catching until yesterday were pike.

 

I was by myself, so landing, netting, measuring, and taking a photo of a sizable muskie was a bit of a challenge.  Its a tiger muskie that measured 36 3/4 inches.  I also found a rusted treble hook with about 16 inches of old fishing line stuck in its mouth, which I properly removed before releasing it.

Nice catch there! What depth did you find him? the other day I also caught my first musky....ever! It was pretty amazing, right next to my paddleboard in about 5-7' of water.  Initially thought it was a nice pike that bit and didn't realize it was a musky till I had it in the net.  Measured him at 32.5" It's got me fiending to look for some metro tigers for this coming fall.

And...novice here, would appreciate the help to ID. Is what I have here a barred muksy or tiger musky?

Definitely a tiger.  There's about a dozen lakes that are still stocked with them.  A 40+ incher is a trophy, as they don't grow nearly as big as a pure strain verson.  I caught mine in about 8 feet of water.

 

I've been specifically targeting these fish for about 7 full seasons now.  I'll send you a PM.

Haha.  I'm ok with the jokes from Smurfy.  He's generally a good guy.

 

I'll continue to stick with lake X and Z.  Maybe I'll throw a Y in there too.

I must be real lucky, caught another healthy one, 30"  in the shallows tonight less than 6 FOW.
