How big was teh Crestliner with that got the sturgeon? Mine is a 1850 and I know its rated for less than 6 people.

You must have a fishhawk 1850 then, because I have a 13 year old Sportfish 1850 (which is the same model I think that one was, only older) and I'm 99% sure it is rated for at least 6 people. It's in storage so I can't say for certain, but anyway....

Everts Resort in Hager City WI, is a great place to launch. Yes, they do charge a fee ($7 I think), but.... the landings are maintained great, there is always a place to park, there is a bait/tackle shop on the premises, and heck they were even selling "brats for breakfast" this morning. Best of all, look around for Dean, and he will tell you what to use and where to go.

Launching at Everts is the place to go. There is a fee but the ramps are good and the baitshop is outstanding. Heck, I had trolling motor battery problems the other evening and swung in the got 2 new Interstates and was back ready to go before I even left the boat launch! Now that's what you call full service!

what is the water temp now on pool 4? i imagine the water is moving now (was there last Tuesday and there was little current and a lot of small saugers being caught). we managed a few but also landed one huge paddlenose (had to be 4.5-5 ft long and over 70 lbs...my first and of course heaviest.

looking to head down to the river MOnday 15th and try our luck again..any updates on what is happening would be appreciated.

couldn't agree with Mike more. Dean is very knowledgeable and most of the time has a good tip for a guy.

fished P4 today and was really my first successful outing i've had out there. my friend and i picked up a few decent fish jigging in midmorning. then made a trip into Evert's for some much needed advice and a few of the hot producers. Hats off to Dean for having such a great place you can just pull into anytime. he visited with my friend and I for a good while and shared more than enough info about techniques and points to focus on. Lets just say it worked out pretty nice. The advice Dean shared with us payed off big time and is very much appreciated. I will definitely be in next time out to chat again and pick up a few new items! Thanks again

Nice fish Nate. I had a friend that was over there and did pretty well today to. I wish i could get back over soon. But im heading over to the Fox River and Green Bay later this week! Guess i can't complain.

The bite on pool 4 should ramp up towards fantastic as the next 2 weeks roll along.

Fished all day sunday at the dam, mostly on the lock side. Fishing was pretty much NON existant. Not to many boats were catching anything. We saw one boat get 2 keepers and they were probably doing better then anyone else. We had one 15 inch sauger on the day and that was it. Tons of debris and ice coming down the river. We fished from 8 in the morning till three in the afternoon and it was BY FAR the worst day ive ever had at the dam. We were seeing schools of what were probably sauger come through pretty steady on the depth finder, but they sure werent biting. We got the lone keeper when one of these schools came through in the morning. The river didnt come up any that we could tell the whole day though... if she stays steady for a week, the fishing will get back to normal hopefully. But id be willing to bet it'll be awefully slow for a couple more days. good luck

Not sure if i saw you guys or not... Saw a lot of people. We were in an older white alumacraft. Didnt see many people catching anything. They seemed to be having a little better luck on the other side of the lock but looked like mostly throw backs to me, and few and far between at that. You guyz must have been on em':')

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
