Went out on Saturday evening and found some fish. My wife caught her PB (26") and my 8 year old son outfished both of us. We caught 15 fish and kept 3. We had a handful of small fish and threw back 6 over 23". Fished in 17' of water on the rocks with a bobber and leech. GREAT EVENING!

Was out sat, sun, and monday I have learned I am not a good walleye fisherman. First time ever fishing in the summer and I couldn't find walleye, tried everything I know which isn't much about walleye. Think I might just stick to bass fishing.

My buddies and I went fishing this past weekend. Walleyes were biting real good that I thought it was Spring. Trolling cranks did the trick...

Took the wife and daughter out fot the night out on a rented pontoon on Thursday night and with just a little knowledge of fishing I was able to put us on some fish and good ones at that.

Ended up with 2 keeper Walleyes, several Jumbo Perch and a few released Smallies(not much size), but always fun!!

Think wind and structure!

Went fishing all day yesterday. 5-10 mph wind my butt. We got beat up pretty good in our 14 ft mirrorcraft but we still had a great time. Pretty good mix of fish trolling cranks with leadcore in 15-25 ft of water. Smallies were absolutely smacking the lure as well as the Walleyes. Walleyes were puking up perch. If I had to guess they looked like a #7 rapala size. FIRETIGER was the ticket.

Going to be 3 of us in my boat this weekend, got two leadcore setups and thinking about pulling a planer board off one side as well. Do you usually use a segmented leadcore setup on planers or snap weights etc?

We'd be pulling cranks, possibly switch to spinners if needed.

Thanks

We were up this past Saturday on the mud flats and did pretty well in the morning and evening. Around lunch we headed south to try and find some small mouth. After a couple hours we headed North for the evening bite which payed off.

Everything came from 30' - 35', pulling lead 3-4 colors, jointed fire tiger and jointed blue/silver were the hot ticket.

Ended up with 12 eyes, 8 over 20", biggest @ 27.5", 4 keepers, 2 jumbo perch. We had 6 misses as well.

I think if we had stayed North all day and searched we could have gotten a few more, all in all it was a fun day.

Did some fishing last week and was catching quite a few perch, with some nice jumbos, some nice eater eyes (quite a few 16-19.5 inchers), some over eyes (biggest was a 25 incher), pike, and some smallies. A couple of the walleyes we kept had a few crawfish in them, and a couple perch also did. The majority of the fish were caught trolling shallow rocks in the evening in that 7-14 ft range using #5 Shad Raps and #7 Tail Dancers , but we also caught some fish trolling lead core in 32-37 ft. Seemed like we would pick at least one decent walleye on each pass over a shallow rock hump, but were also getting some on the edges of underwater rock points. Best color Shad Raps were Perch and Crawdad, and the best colored Tail Dancer was also Perch. Good luck!

Fished the north end today to avoid some of the wind and waves. Lots of boats fishing about 28 feet of water with leadcore. We caught 3 fish all day. Marked tons of fish, just couldn't get em to bite Hope everyone else did better than us.

Fished last weekend with some success pulling lead core in and around Otto's. Saturday ended with 5 fish with 4 being over 20". All were caught with a perch crankbait. Sunday I didn't even try due to the south end of the lake looking like the ocean (HUGE WAVES). Fished Monday morning and ended with 4 fish (2 keepers and 2 overs) and they were caught with a gold crankbait. Can't wait to get back up next weekend.

So what is the best plan of attack to boat some perch up at the pond this time of year? Bottom Bouncers with spinners leech / Crawler? Crankbaits? Thanks for any info.

A bottom bouncer and a spinner tipped with a crawler has been very productive in about 15 to 25 feet, or a small 1/32oz jig tipped with a crawler under a thill float will work well!

I have also used a small crank trolled around 1.6 mph and pulled a lot of nice jumbos that way. good luck

On the North end, wow there were some huge rollers out there..managed 7/9 keepers before noon between 2 of us. All were caught 27'-35' off the flats pulling lead. Fire tiger and blue/silver shad were the hot lures. They were all decent 15" - 19.5" with 2 over - 22.5" and 25" were the biggest.

Fished yesterday out of isle from 9am-4pm, using crankbaits in 8-15 feet. Caught 2 walleyes right away, 21" and 17", followed by a smallie. Thought we had 'em dialed in, then nothing after that. Hopefully by next wknd more walleyes will by moving in shallow!

Spent the day today from 9am-2pm in the rain on the lake. Ended with 7 walleye being caught (4 keepers and 3 to big). Keepers were caught in 19-21' of water and the big fish were caught in 29-31' of water on crankbaits. Tried every color and once the switch was made to fire tiger all the fish were caught. Fun/wet day on the lake! Looking forward to next weekend.

A buddy and I went out last evening and stayed out through most of the night. The evening went well as we boated a few nice walleyes pulling cranks with lead core on the flats. Then the wind came up. The weather said the wind would be 3 mph from s/se. It was more like 23 from the ss/e and we had 4 foot rollers on the flats. That pretty much took us off our game and we didn't boat any more fish the rest of the night. Pi$$ed me off to tell you the truth, but that's fishing!

Yeah, it seems the big lake forgets to listen to the wind forecasts, and does her own thing! At least you caught some.

Fished Saturday night and Sunday on the south end (Isle/Wahkon/Izatys). Saturday night we were on the rocks and landed 6 fish with 2 being keepers (2 smaller fish and a 24" and 25"). We were fishing in 9-11 feet of water with a jig and minnow. Pink and yellow jigs were the ticket. Sunday we pulled lead all over the south end. Early in the morning we were getting fish in the 19-21' and in the afternoon we were in 25-29'. Colors varied based off the cloud cover (perch, fire tiger, gold and silver). We ended the day with 11 fish being caught (5 keepers).

We were on the west side Friday night (Had the ladies with)so we were bobber fishing in 13 feet over rocks. We got 3 into the boat, 21-21-22, had another large one up to the side and missed 2 other bites.

We only fished for about an hour and a half and quit about 1/2 hour before I figured it would really get good. Girls wanted to be off the lake before dark. Oh well, we had fun.

The fish wouldn't take a crawler, or a minnow, they were after the leeches and that was that!

Flushed 3 pheasants today with Hazel but they were flushing 50 yards a head of her. Then we went by some little berries that looked black and hazels tail started going a brown bird gets up I thought hen then the bird banked and it was a grouse. It was good to get her out in the woods. I seen a few pheasants in picked corn fields.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280
    • Wanderer
20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
