Nothing wrong with those jumbos. Just a random lil hole is the hot spot huh?
Seems to be in that area. wink It's only about a 50 yrd round dip and I've hit some nice ones in it a few times. I fished in 27' feet close by it this morning for 2 hrs without a bite. Then went back to that spot and did pretty well. confused

You guys are finding tulibees on the deeper mud using waxies and euro? I have never fished Mille Lacs for them before.

I was planning on heading up next weekend for perch but my brother wants a few tulibees for the smoker.

Has seven mile been producing perch as well?

How are the roads and access out there, looking to bring a big house up for the weekend, where the best place to go on.

Same with the perch we got this weekend. Packed full of bugs. No wonder why only 1 out of every 100 will bite. Did end up with 7 keepers in the 4 hours we fished sat. Good thing is the one was good for 9th place at the extravaganza.

Appeldoorns has a road directly to 7 mile. Give them a call.

Thanks Monster Moose - no doubt I prob drove right by you on the way out and in. I was doing a do-jigger with drop chain alternating between waxies or red maggots OR a really small jig with the same gobbed on. Seemed to get a little more interest with the smaller prst and picked up more perch that way. Looking to do another day trip this Friday - maybe this will be the day where two of us can catch a lot of tullies!

Went out of Hunters yesterday.

Stayed in close.

Drilled 2 holes in an area that has been good to me the last few weeks and set up the portable.

Never moved all day.

Had fish pretty much on the Vex all the time.

Had to pull up a few times to let the tullies pass thru or they would just hang around.

Ended up bringing home 10 tullies, 17 jumbos, and 1 bonus eye.

Threw a lot more back.

It was kind of nice not having to move around with the wind blowing like it was.

Another great day on Mille Lacs.

I was out there yesterday. Got a few Crappies in the bay area.

Um, the Bay area? That narrows it down to about 10 on the lake! whistle

Hey guys and gals, fished midget today from sunrise to 3:30pm. Lots of fish on bottom 12 feet of water column... not many takers though, only two jumbos and sixteen tuli's for the smoker. lots of fish would chase super fast but not bite. Used red, white, black ratso's,chart,orange/gold orcas and forage minnows, tried minnows, larva, and wax worms. larva seemed to work best loaded up due to the millions of tiny perch and walleyes that litter the area. oh and the jiffy was dang close to not punchin through w/o extension. good luck and have a safe late ice season!

hey guys, would happen to know if or what the fee is to drive off the launches on hunter's point or appeldoorn's. Thanks.

Paying the fee is more then worth the information they give you. The clear roads are just a bonus.

New to the big pond, anybody have any advice where to go out of on west side of lake? Just going with portable and 4 wheel Ford Ranger and any help for areas or maybe meet up somewhere for some fishing would be great.

I dont profess to knowing the west side or any side of mille well, but your pretty close to some good mud flats over that way.Dont forget about the breaklines from shore either. If you have a mapping chip and gps that will help you the most.Read thru these postings and you can get and idea of what to use bait, colors etc,and depth.I like to find areas that look on the map like a good travel route a fish would follow.Areas such as the bottom edge of a mudflat,an inside turn on a break and so forth. The chips are pretty accurate so they are easy to locate.Take some time and find fish before you commit to fishing, which can mean drill, drill, drill.Thats part of the fun, good luck out there...

If this snow holds off and we don't have to go out plowing today and/or tomorrow, we are going to make another trip up. Win, lose, or draw, I love fishing Mille Lacs.

Either Lybacks, Rocky Reef, or Hunters, we'er still not sure which one we will be doing....we'll kind of figure that one out when the troops arrive at about 7:00....meanwhile, I'm up and at em chomping at the bit.

Hit the pond today.

Ended up bringing home 15 jumbos.

A lot of lookers but the ones that bit were aggressive.

Another great day.

We brought home a few tullibees and about 1/2 dozen perch. Lots of fish, but small. That wind was alot stronger then they said it was gonna be...I tried fishing outside for awhile, but gave up on that plan.

The spot and hole hopping was limited to 3 spots total....the guys that came with me aren't very adventureous...both are a little crippled up right now, so I couldn't very well go off and leave em.

We had fun though, set up close to one another so we could jabber back and forth and laugh like kids! I'll be going up there 2-3 more times before ice out....I wanna get that elusive 13 incher...it's been awhile since I got a biggie like that.

I know this is early but. I'm wondering if any of the resorts on the east side of the lake allowing tent camping in summer

Looking to bring the kids up early June ---never fished the eastside and would like to learn a Kilgore about that side of the lake

I have a 14 footer so will be saying relatively close to shore depending on weather

Thanks for any input

Always a good day out of the house.  Hey moose, what kind of gun do you have a few grouse pictures back?
    • monstermoose78
Flushed 3 pheasants today with Hazel but they were flushing 50 yards a head of her. Then we went by some little berries that looked black and hazels tail started going a brown bird gets up I thought hen then the bird banked and it was a grouse. It was good to get her out in the woods. I seen a few pheasants in picked corn fields.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
