Kayak Ideas?

If budget is not a big issue ... I would recommend looking at the Hobie Kayaks. Lots of cool options for fishing. They even have an option for a live well. Check out their web site.

I don't own one but a freind does. He uses it for fishing and he raves about it. One unique feature of the Hobies is that you can propell them using foot power (no hand paddles). Allows you to troll around and activily use both hands to cast/fish.

You'll have to post pic's of your final choice.

The hobies are nice, but there are a lot of really great boats out there now. Even some canoe/kayak hybrids.

What are you looking to do with your kayak, and where are you planning on fishing?

I really like a SOT when the water gets warmer, but early in the year I do like the protection of the SIK. It'll keep you dry and warm.

Check out the canoe section of the board, there are some good members down there who can help you out.

Hiya -

I have a good friend and hardcore kayak angler that swears by his Native Watercraft brand Kayaks. He has the Manta Ray, which is a sit on top model, and raves about it.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
