OK I'm still here. I guess is that the lake has frozen out? And all you guy's are on Cass.

OH well, looks like we'll need more beer in the shack!!!!!!!

It's a distinct possibility all the wolves in longville made it over to leech and ate all the perch.

On a serious note...you can find the jumbos in leech, but I think you'll get more action and size on cass or winnie.

Well, I was hooked into this trip. I fished winnie and cass before.

Its more than just catching JUMBO's, its trying to fish as many great perch lakes as I can. I've caught 15" perch in three diffrent states. Not looking for that on Leech although

I'm sure they swim in the lake. Its just four OLD guys and a bunch of BEER. Leech was drawn out of the hat this year.

Thank You

Thanks to all. It sounds like we'll have a fish fry! I also know from fishing in MN. and MI. that in 1 month things will change. One of tour group just had a triple by-pass and a pig

valve put in. The rest of us are praying that its a gas valve!

A Dr. told him NO drilling hole?? We bought him a new shovel

so he can help get us out.

If you are going after perch and staying at Brindley's you are going to do fine. You are in the right area of the lake. Some of the best late ice perch fishing is done right in front of Brindley's or withing a mile or two of there. Good luck and I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised!

I would like to thank everyone for the info on the lake. And from what I read on this site and others, Brindley's will produce.

With only 26 more days to go I feel like I'm 10 years old going

on a great adventure.

Here in northern WI. the perch fishing is awful this year, you can watch them on the locater or on the camera. They come up and go down, very few takers. The ice is the best its been in years, with only 1-2" of snow. Dang I want fresh perch tonight.

Last time up on Leech we caught most of our perch on walleye jigging spoons or fatheads under a very light bobber. Found a few over 10".

If you can get to portage and fish the silt sand break you get really get into the 10-12"ers. small spoons and drop down hooks have been working good with minnow heads.

Thank You fishgutz77: I don't know if time will allow for running and gunning other lakes. But thanks again. It looks like we'll just fish out from Brindley's, they take you out, set you up, and all we have to do is kick back, catch fish and enjoy. If it all comes together. cool

I believe fishgutz was refering to portage bay of leech lake which is due north, northeast of traders bay. Hope you guy's have a nice time. Fish fry with a few beers, life don't get any better!!

I'll make sure the resort picks us up last!!!

Thank you for your help. And thank all the rest for all the help. Here in WI. you wouldn't get anyone to help! Its like a

The colors varied for us when we were up. Spoons, gold and blue glow seemed to be my best option. But I was told otherwise for this past weekend (red). Salmos we used were the sucker pattern I think its called???

I would like to Thank! Tweeder;Jigginlslife;3rdcrowwinglad;stoney;leechlsker547;jbmaster angler;trollen slow;fishgutz77;The Thompsons and lukeydave;

For all your help. We should be at Brindley's before dark on the 11th. All we need is our license and bait? If the bait shop guy is anything like around here, we'll need some of the top secret killer lures of the day. You would think that the bag of lures that I've been buying for 40 years now would work, But? I can always use more! The Grandson can spend his life trying them all!

Thanks again

Little tip from this past weekend, and just so you have to go buy more stuff! All but one walleye we caught this weekend was on a less than one inch (not sure the exact size) Northland Forrage Minnow in the Glo Perch color with a half a fathead on it. We tried differetn colors, but that was the only one that caught a fish. Not just the minnow head on it either head, half the minnow with the head. worked this set up constantly 6"-1' off the bottom. Literally could not get them to bite anything else.

3rdCrowWingLad: Thanks for the heads up! Will make the lure run tomorrow on the way up!

All I need is 10-9" Perch and I'll have a fish fry!!! The other 3 guy's can watch me eat! Thats all it takes for the trip to be a success. OH and drink all my beer!

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
