Waconia Fishing

If your going in daylight, dont go the the 25' hole near pilsbury, night bite only. Not too sure about daytime bite, havent been out much during the light, but sunnies should be biting up on the weeds, 9fow or so, andersons has been a good spot if you can get on top the weeds during the day.

Went out after work today. Set up by 6:00 in the hole south of pills. Marked fish all evening. Managed to catch a few 9inchers, but it was pretty slow. Light bites on small glow jigs with Minnow heads or euros.

Good night FMers.

Anderson's from what I've heard has been dead most of the year. I would have to think so, as theres only a few houses out there

Andersons may be slow this year, but I think most of the group that was out there was in deeper water targeting eyes and crappies. There has to be some sunny action on the weeds if you poke around, I was in deeper water with everyone else when I did fish andersons this year but in past years I have always been able to find some sunnys around there somewhere.

I did some fishing last night too. Tried to find some panfish shallow in the weeds, gills partiularly. Drilled alot of holes, but managed only one 9" crappie. No gills. So I decided to go to the 25' hole for crappies. Caught probably at least 30 crappies, nothing over 9.5" Lots of potato chips. What worked this time out was a Glow Demon/euros. Funny they weren't at all interested in the Ratso/euro combo which worked well last time out. Sure would like to run into one of those genuine slabs out there.

I might make it out during the day next week. I'll probably rake the weed tops over for some gills.

I too was out in the deep hole last night and managed a limit of crappies but you really had to work for them. Most of the bites came on a glow with a minnow head. Got 1 or 2 on the waxies but nothing on the euros!

Me and some of my college buddies might try Waconia tomorrow for a friendly contest. How is the ice, is it still driveable?

Calvinist.. Nothing over 9.5? what are you keeping? 9.5 is almost perfect, I catch 1-2 of 12-13"and toss them back, then get a ton of less than and barely 8". I try to slot my crappie between 8.5 and 10. Id be happy with a pail of 9.5's.

Trying other lakes now but was in 14fow on center up to last week, between 4 and 7:30pm.

I threw everything back last night. 9" up to 11" is good eating size for me. Anything over goes back. I caught one @ 9.5", A few @ 9" and many, many smaller ones. What I haven't seen in the three times I've set up over the hole is any fish over the 10" mark. I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time.

I must have just been lucky, I was set up near Chris Q and every night after the sunnies stopped biting my first two crappie were over 12", ice and diced 3 of em but the rest always came after 6:30 or after the contest ended. maybe it was the same ones every night! LOL

They always came from Waxies too, my buddies were using minnows and heads and it was always me and the waxies bringing in the big ones, they even made me switch holes with them, THAT was funny.

crappies are still biting, I've been out the last two nights, and took home my limit each time..I've pretty much been able to land 9" crappies with a regular hook and crappie minnow but for some reason, I just can't get them interested on the waxies, but I guess everyone else has..nothing over 10.5" yet but it's been good eating and fishing.

The hole kicks out some slabs here and there, your right about being at the right place at the right time. They are there, but I think many of the slabs have gotten smart over the years and can be hard to catch, but that hole does kick out slabs every year. I have gotten a few this year over 12" up to 14" during the few weeks we did fish the big city, not the true monsters that are in the lake, but nice fish still, and I have seen and heard of quite a few 16+" fish coming from that area.

I'm out in the deep hole off pilsbury and was thinking of moving the house to Waconia bay. Any word of how the fishing is over there?

um... dunno.

Any good fishing reports for waconia, I haven't been getting much for panfish. I was doing really good up until about two weeks ago then they just quit but I did find a few crappies in 15 FOW in pillsbury.

Why would a bait store close already? Still lots of fishing to do and people still need bait. Maybe not the most profitable time, but most stay open anyways to serve their customers.

Do fish bite during the day on Waconia? Im heading out there tomorrow for the first time ever with a buddy who doesnt like to wake up early or stay out late... I know that isnt the ideal time for catching fish but what can you do. Ive had a lot of luck on the St Croix catching those monsters crappies you all are chasing. You dont catch many but boy do they get big in there. Try it out sometime if you dont mind driving an hour and a half! Any thoughts where the day bite may be on Waconia?

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.

Totally disagree Gim. I have a gas Jiffy legend auger. Never issues. Take a little time to care for it before putting it away and good to go. Sincei started using non oxygen gas, startron and seafood in never have issues with my 2 strokes.   seafood???   I'd try seafoam!!!   🤣

Wow, 600 bucks for a battery powered lawn mower?  Guess I didn't realize they costed that much.   I assume most people now are using battery augers in the winter.  I remember when they first came out everyone thought they were a joke.  Things sure have changed on that front.  I hardly see anyone using a gas auger anymore.   The selling point, at least for me, would be to avoid having to do any engine maintenance.  Small 2 stroke motors are a pain in the rear to maintain, and unreliable at best.

I don't know, this save the plant thing looks like a money maker, for someone! 🫤 Where do you think electric prices are going to go when they have the monopoly for everything that moves! 🙄

Nice!   It would be great if they had some kind of brake, so you don't end up on your neighbors YouTube video going down the driveway! 😆

Last month I went searching online for a trailer jack with pneumatic tires. Instead I found the video below showing a relatively quick and easy upgrade to your existing jack:     It's worked pretty well. I definitely had to mess around with finding the right combination of spacers, washers, and locknut pressure that wouldn't bind up the wheels. However, it is a pretty sweet setup and allows me much better control. We live at the end of a half-alley. My garage faces the end so when I need to hook my boat up to the truck, I have to pull it out into my driveway and then swivel it 180 degrees to face towards the street. The handle is what really makes the difference and now the trailer jack wheels don't slide on the asphalt. Has anyone else done this conversion?
