Ontario to require nonresident card

Anglers and hunters from outside Ontario who want to hunt and fish in the province will need an Outdoors Card effective Jan. 1.

Nonresident anglers and hunters will be required to purchase the card in addition to an Ontario fishing or hunting license, except for those buying one-day fishing licenses.

The card is available where Ontario hunting and fishing licenses are sold.

By 2010, the government will move to a fully automated system that will allow anglers and hunters to purchase licenses using the Internet or through a toll-free automated phone service.

For those hunting and fishing in Ontario in 2009, there's another new requirement -- and an additional expense. Nonresidents must now obtain an Ontario Outdoors Card, which is required to buy a hunting or fishing license (except a one-day fishing license.) The card costs $9 (Canadian) and is valid for three years.

Card holders will be assigned an identification number, which will be used when Ontario converts to an all-electronic licensing system, such as those used in Minnesota, Wisconsin and most other states. The proceeds from the cards will help pay for that new system, which is scheduled to begin in 2010.

Once implemented, nonresidents will be able to buy Ontario fishing and some hunting licenses from home. For now, you'll have to buy your Outdoors Card at the same place you buy your Ontario fishing or hunting licenses.

Haven't heard of this.. So if we stay on the american side and boat over to the canadian waters of Rainy, do we still need the card?? In addition to the RABC.
