Marlonb...you must be the one that used our welder. Glade that you got it going.

terrible_fisherman...nice fish! I would have liked to seen that one on your wall as well. A lot of pike this morning crusing after sunfish. One kept nudging the camera and giving it the eye so I played with it for awhile until it finally wondered off. Seen probably 5 or 6 on the camera this morning out from Bottle Bay in 13.5 fow.

Our group got a few walleyes last night...one big one that made 3 runs before finally breaking the line cuz the bobber hit the edge. Not much thru the night however...we thought it was going to be better than that. Started on sunnies this morning and got around 15 or so between my son and I before we had to come in. Also got a crappie, a few bass and a pike. Sunnies seem to be moving in and we seen A LOT of them on the camera...looks to be picking up. We were out from Bottle Bay in 13.5 fow on some weed beds.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Landdr- you have very good information and I appreciate all of it. Im planning on being there Sunday hopefully if all plans come together. I assume from you previous posts that you run the bait shop in Glenwood? Without goin into any further detail, I look forward to meeting you and catching up on the current bite!

Glad to help. Great getting people out fishing on what seems to be a delining sport...especially with the kids. Take a kid or two along if you can. Seems they always have to take their DS or game boy along...but still good to get them out there.

Look forward to looking the map over with you and I can give some updates.

Is there a reason that the PM is diabled? Thanks

Guess I don't know...never used it or checked it. Kinda computer challenged in that way. I will check the profile.

I wanted to get some info from you landr. But wanted to talk to you off screen. Where are you located on the lake?

Posted

East side in Glenwood. Do a search on bait shops in Glenwood and you should find the contact information. I have asked for the sponsor information but have not received it as of yet.

Pretty good panfish today. Got a few in the AM but the bite didn't really start until noon and then some really nice fish. Most were around 6 to 8 oz. with a couple over 8. Kept a few small bass as well as mom and I like them. Even had a couple fo eyes come in at the wigglers but just nudged them and moved on. That would have been nice fun and nice to add to the catch! 13.5 fow on the weeds. Many were not aggressive but with a littler persuasion got them to bite...others came right in and pounded the bait. A lot of fun and a nice meal for sure.

Stayed for eyes as well from 5 to 7 but nothing. Definately could be this cold front since the other two that came in early on the camera really didn't do much either...we had a couple shiners down.

Picked up a couple nice pike for pickling as well for a bonus.

All in all a really good day on the lake. No one will go hungry for a couple of days anyway. smile

I have had several calls this morning for accesses and lake conditions so I will post an update...

Glenwood Beach...access is in great shape but fewer people fishing out from the beach now. "The Beach" is usually a good spot to start with early ice and also a great spot to go near the end for walleyes.

Lakeside...access is now open and in really great shape. Pretty smooth and easy slope to bring fish houses out on. There are still several houses out from "Lakeside" and on "The old Road Grade"...still have reports of walleyes being caught there. Several roads go out from it.

DNR Landing...both sides of the DNR Landing are in great shape with the west side being smooth and with a low incline for getting houses on. Several roads go out from it to Crappie Town, Old Road Grade, etc.

Sac's Landing (pay access)...looks good with several roads going out from it into Bottle Bay.

Sherriff's Landing (free access just a mile west of Sac's Landing)...really good access and I have been using this one regular to get out to Bottle Bay, School Bars and School Point. Several roads go out from this access.

The lake is in great shape. There were still a few slush spots but for the most part those have frozen up...especially with last night's low temps in the neg. 20s. Burrrrr! The roads are hard packed, a little rough but not too bad, but very hard. There was 13 to 14 inches of ice but last night's temps might have added another inch or two.

Many many small vehicles, half ton trucks and suburbans on the lake and pulling houses around. No one should have any problem with getting houses out and getting around.

Fishing was pretty good yesterday with about 30 nice sunnies, a few small good eating bass, couple of pike for pickling and even seen a couple walleyes on the camera. Good day of fishing!

I was about 3/4 mile out from the creek west of Lakeside fishing with fatheads---one eye up to the hole -lost it...several other bobbers down but no hook-ups. this was Jan. 1`in 13' . maybe I should be using shiners.

Nice! I do pretty well during open water pulling cranks in 13.5 fow in that area. There are a couple of channels between weeds that I have thought about setting up to try but have not gotten over there yet.

Not sure how you hook your bait, but I usually set the hook around the dorsal fin on one side and slide the hook forward on the same side so it is pointing forward. This assures that you don't put the hook thru any vitals but also has the hook pointing forward for the hook set. Fish "usually" take their food head first, setting the hook this way increases chances of getting lite bites or early sets.

Where is bottle bay, is that the bay by the small white church?

Posted

Yup! That's the one.

Posted

Bottle Bay will start approximately at the west inside bend of the point by Torgy's (Woodland Point) and run west all the way to School Point. Not really a "bay" but it does come in to some degree. The littl white church (Morning Glory Gardens)near the center of Bottle Bay. Just back to the east of the church is "Sherriff's Landing" which is a private access but is free. Rick Ronnie is the current owner and lives across from this landing in the "A frame" house. Buy Rick a beer if you see him as a thank you and please pick up any trash that you might see at the landing to keep it clean for Rick.

Single digits all week but the winds are forcasted as very low except for Thursday.

Sunfish bite has really picked up...getting back to the way it was. Reports in yesterday were limits of handsized sunnies in about 45 to an hour. Couple guys said they were all over the camera or flasher and would have a bite just as soon as you got bait down there.

Very nice!

Kyle, is that the group on the left or right out of sacks. I was out there last night, the group to the left about 17 feet. Lots of fish marked, but didnt have any waxies. After dark i never marked a fish.

Posted

I think you are going to find them in both locations just out past them in 16 to 18 fow. It seems like the fish are starting to move in. I am not sure what the sunnies do after dark but they do disappear. The other day I had a pike come in and I watched a sunfish litterally lay down on the bottom to avoid the predator.

The walleye bite was good in some areas (2 to 4 per evening) and even better in some other areas prior to the cold front. I didn't hear of much thru the cold front and we didn't get much either. Now that the temp is on the rise again, we are thinking the bite will pick up again. Had one report yesterday of a good bit during the day and into evening but not sure where that fella was at. Also had a report of 14 walleyes kept in another house out from the school...again I don't know where out for the school that might be. If they don't tell, I don't ask.

I would target any sharper drops in the 18 to 21 fow range on Waska...there are many of those locations to chose from and feel to stop in to look at the 1 ft. contour map on the counter for some ideas and we can give some suggestions as well. We are going to do a little looking today as well.

Crappie bite...I am hearing more and more crappies being caught. Sounds like 15 to 16 fow for the most part and I would suspect locations of Bottle Bay and the very end of Crappie Town. Both locations would be resonable to start with.

More reports of good sunny bites...but still a few people in not locating them. For the most part, people are getting into some nice fish now. If you don't first locate them, move a little further and keep checking...once you find them it does not take long.

Landdr- Nice meeting you today! Me and my father had a excellent day of fishing we got our sunfish and then went searching for the crappies, we found some nice gems. They were scattered in some nice weed pockets the camera played a huge part in locating the right cover. The crappies we caught were around the 11 1/2-12 inch mark. Took some hole drilling but it was worth it. Nice chit-chatting with you and we will see you in the future.

What I need to do is set up my back door for 24 hr bait so I can sleep in! smile

Nice meeting you as well IceHawk. Next time take me with you. smile

I got out for a couple hours as well but had to head in when the bite was getting better. I managed a few nice sunnies, two more nice pike for Fish Patties and a nice walleye about 17 inches. The walleye was the last thing I caught and it was just getting to be prime time...hated to leave. There is always tomorrow.

Thanks for the reports!
